1 Print out the exam objectives in the community tab. Go through each topic if you are slightly unsure, do not check it off. Check off all you think you know.

Video Resources- Professor Messer and course notes.

Book and Lab- Mikes Bible and labs. If you have a decent computer you may want to set up virtual machines; Mikes Lab book CH 18 covers how to do that. You can find free Windows VMs here. I highly suggest you learn how to do this.

Tests: Crucial, Exam Compass and Professors Messors' and Mikes'.

Materials-

  • Pencil, pens, highlighters, flash cards, good spiral bound notebook and computer.

-Study Regimen- ( this depends on your time constraints). If you can spend 3 to 5 hours at least every other day you can follow this. On off days review flash cards and notes. I study similar to this.

Week 1&2- Read book cover to cover. Do all practice tests, vocabulary and extras in the book. Also, do corresponding labs. Highlight, make flash cards of acronyms and terms you do not know. IF the book or Professor Messsor says, "It is important." write it down. Write down anything you are having trouble understanding or do not know. Do not move on until you fully understand the concept ( this may take longer but worth it).

Week 3- Get exam objectives that you checked off and watch in order all of Professor Messers videos. This should be a review and is to help store all this information in long term storage. Write down anything that is alien/ new and learn it. Re-drill Labs and anything you are not sure on. Make new flash cards for new things. Study your notes and PM notes on off days, lunch breaks, etc. When you are done with his videos... Redrill the objectives again.

Week 3/4- Take any and all practice exams as many as you can find.If you need to, pay for them. Whatever you miss break it down: Why did I miss this? Why are the other answers wrong?

At this point you are ready to take the exam. Days before the exam re-drill objectives, notes, and flash cards. If you can spend longer hours you can do this in under 3 weeks; if you take longer at most 8 weeks.

    TIPS-
Keep it simple. Always remember that. CompTIA is heavy on Occam's Razor.

CompTIA has their own way of doing things. If you are having a hard time accepting that.... Accept it until you pass the Exam.

One inch deep, miles across. Our official CompTIA slogan for entry level certs. What I mean is, chances are you will be quizzed on trouble shooting concepts on memory/processor versus counting pins on DDR2 stick or knowing all the older AMD processors. Do not get super granular you'll regret it. I have every exam I took because I am super-granular.
