I have one similar called Modern Air Combat It is extremely worn but I flip through it from time to time to get a bit of Cold War nostalgia. I used to have the book that OP posted but I lost it some time ago.
Red Storm Rising by Tom Clancy is one good place to start. I recently re-read Modern Air Combat by Bill Gunston and although it was written in 1983, it holds up quite well, and has a lot of info on airplane design and tactics that are still relevant. Modern Naval Combat (see the related Amazon links) is also good. Fighter Wing by Tom Clancy is another good one, and Submarine, also by him. If you look those up on Amazon and follow the "people who bought this also searched for..." links, it'll take you right down the rabbit hole. The good news is that a lot of old military reference books are now sold for basically the price of shipping.
Also what the other post here said: any time you don't know about a unit, Google and Wikipedia it and follow the links.

That said, aside from all of his own... hm... 'literature', his publishing house did translate a few of Western publications too. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I'll never forgive myself I've never found an opportunity to buy another copy - after giving the first two I've purchsed to two of my friends in Syria...
