It's magnetic so it connects to the Surface Pro properly, but doesn't actually use the connection on the bottom of the Surface. Of course, since it's a separate Bluetooth device, it also has it's own battery you need to charge as well.
Not sure if there's such thing as an adapter but there are wireless third party type covers like this

Responsiveness is at least as good as the original. I don't think it handled done gestures as well, but don't quote me on that--i use a mouse almost 100% of the time. Amazon link if you're curious
the link says Moko makes them too. I don't know if these are any good. Raises more questions for me tbh since it doesn't use the connector.
