totally! i use the pocket-sized moleskin notebooks (softcover, no lines). they use acid-free paper. no lines b/c then you can sketch in them too. pocket-sized and softcover b/c they're so convenient to carry around.

My little moleskine has lots of stuff in it. I use it as a wallet so it has my insurence, license, utk id, and debit card in the pocket. It has sketches of people, lab procedure notes for the ic machine and cellulose towers, notes for my dslr, contact info for people I just met, to do lists, passwords, my hours at my 2 jobs, computer part notes from where I was building my new desktop. I went to the High Museum in Atlanta a couple of weeks ago, I have sketches in my notebook from there and lists of artists I want to look up. It have quotes I've found and liked. Books people have recommended I get. It even has notes on in which of my Skyrim save files I'm a vampire and which ones I'm dawnguard.

I eventually back up my notebooks on my computer through photos, Evernote and Dropbox.
If I lost my notebook before it was backed up, life would get very hard very quickly.
