I used a combination of rat traps baited with peanut butter and crunchy dog food, and rat poison in bait stations to get rid of rats in my garage. After using this combo once they haven't been back. The traps caught 5 and after a week the bait in the stations was no longer eaten. I check the stations regularly and don't see any rat droppings.
