My advice to you: suit up before cleaning.

You will need (links go to examples):

1. Safety googles. Spiders can't get into those.
   
2. Respirator mask. Spiders can't get into those.
   
3. Plastic shower cap to cover your hair. Spiders can't get past those.
   
4. Rubber gloves. Also available as latex-free if you need that. Spiders can't get past those.
   
5. A long-sleeved cotton or flannel shirt.
   
6. A pair of heavy jeans to wear.
   
7. A pair of heavy socks to wear.
   
8. A pair of non-open shoes, ideally sneakers or work boots. Shoes that are closed off so that spiders can't get in, in other words.
   
   Once you're wearing all of those items, you are impervious to:
   
   

• Spiders
  
• Ticks
  
• Fleas
  
• Chiggers
  
• ...and similar insects.
  
  I repeat: you are impervious. They cannot get to you to hurt you.
  
  Finally, get yourself a can of a good spider-killing insecticide. You will have this on your person as you set out to clean.
  
  You are now geared up--when it comes to spiders, at least--like Antonio Banderas in Desperado, like Chow Yun-Fat in Hard-Boiled, like Uma Thurman in Kill Bill, like Keanu Reeves in the first Matrix movie. Ain't no spider gonna touch you as you clean, as you've got both the armor and weaponry to destroy them before they even know you're coming.
