You have a point. What I think is dangerous about that approach is that the criteria for banning a book is never really defined properly.

You could, in all fairness, say that this book encourages witchcraft - a serious charge in some parts of the world. It should, therefore, be banned. This book openly advocates the use of illegal drugs. This one commands you to stone misbehaving children and give your daughters to slavery if necessary (haw haw).

If you ban one book, where do you draw the line? Who gets to decide what's acceptable and what's not?

I love reading books about smuggling. Mr Nice is a great one.

At one point he's dragging two huge suitcases stuffed with $millions in cash through Hong Kong. A riot breaks out and the rioters are smashing the shop windows and pulling TV sets into the street to loot them.

He collapsed exhausted sitting on the cases unable to drag them any further. Howard says he looked around, and the contents of his suitcases were worth more than everything he could see in the whole street put together.

A taxi driver helped him put the cases in the taxi and get him to a hotel.

This is a brilliantly engrossing book and based on truth (he says).

If you like this kind of adventure in modern times autobiography, then I recommend Mr Nice by Howard Marks too.

Both of those books kept me from engaging with the real world while on holidays - you have been warned!

You like something funny and someone already mentioned Catch 22 i have to second this, also for a good laugh try Christopher Moore , Lamb is a good start for his books. You mentioned goodfellas , wiseguys by Nicholas Pileggi is the book the film is based on and is a good read , also Mario Puzo Godfather is a good book (he also wrote superman). If you like weeds the best for that show i can think of is Mr Nice DONT watch the film tho it is crap.
