Sounds like there's a few issues -- some thoughts & ideas that I haven't seen mentioned:

  • Accept that no matter what someone is going to have some discomfort here -- with the current situation you're the one experiencing all the discomfort. He can't sleep with clothes, you can't sleep with dirty sheets and the smell in the room. Seems like a reasonable compromise that he should be the one to be washing the sheets to make you more comfortable.
  • Showering at night vs. in the morning -- I can relate to both of you on this. I have a tendency to sweat at night and wake up feeling like I need another shower in the morning, so if I'm going to take one shower a day my preference is to take it in the morning. I'll still shower before bed on days where I get gross.
  • Musk / BO - sounds like he needs charcoal added to his hygiene regimen. My wife is sensitive to smell, so I've done a lot of experimenting with this. Best combination I've found so far:
  • If he's not comfortable sleeping in underwear, chances are he's got the wrong underwear. If he finds the right pair, it should feel just as comfortable as going without. Another area that took me a lot of trial and error before I found something that worked. Expect to pay in the range of $15-20 or more per pair for quality.
    • Most of what I have now are briefs from Brooks (apparently now discontinued), with a few pairs from Ex-Officio. The Ex-Officio stuff is where I'd start for your husband since they're made to be anti-microbial to reduce odors.
  • It sounds like you need to do something about the laundry hamper. Some ideas:
    • If you have a washer in your apartment, have him put clothes directly into the washer when he takes them off.
    • If that's not an option, look into solutions designed for cloth diapers. We have kids and a Diaper Dekor Plus in our room along with a changing table -- it seems to do a good job at keeping smells contained, although it helps to toss a few activated charcoal packets in the bottom.

I bought a bottle of the Neutrogena Body Clear and mid way through the bottle I got what seemed like a reaction. Not sure if I scrubbed too hard but my whole chest broke out with little bumps and it took a couple weeks to go away. I havent dared to try it again but I do use stridex in the red box that seems to have helped more than anything. It's still not perfect but much improved!
I also started using a charcoal/mint exfoliator that I think has been helping [This one!] (https://www.amazon.com/Natures-Gate-Charcoal-Exfoliates-Recyclable/dp/B074K81746?th=1)
