No snark intended, just poking a little fun at the original post.
Its not really a secret that the stock equipment provided by spectrum is awful. I wanted to show you CAN have the Down speed you pay for, and maybe a little more if you know what you're doing.
First things first:
If you're curious, this is the modem I use:
I replaced it with this. No problems at all.
They even have a $10 coupon to clip if you order it now.
NETGEAR CM600 (24x8) DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem. Max Download speeds of 960Mbps. Certified for XFINITY by Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox, Charter & More (CM600-1AZNAS) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XGZBCKP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Jq5TCb0QQR0BG
Yeah this. I cannot stand combo's (Curse you Botegga AT&T router thing!!!!). I use a CM600.
This is very important though: Do NOT go to Walmart/Best Buy and buy the cheapest one! They have notoriously old stock and they may not be compatible even if the box says "Spectrum" on it.

$170? Mine was $90 for a pretty high tier one, you can get by fine with a $60 one with most current speeds.

I will be paying aprox $55 with my own modem. And I got this modem, as recommended by The Wirecutter.
I use this netgear modem and this netgear router with 60mbps internet from Comcast. It is a bit pricey for the pair, but it is future proof in that it is docsis 3.1 so it is capable of gigabit. This pair has been great for me, and even though I only pay for 60 mbps, I never have issues with sputtering or buffering when streaming and never have issues on xbox live.
I would assume this netgear docsis 3.0 modem would also be reliable as well, and it is much cheaper. I've read on here about a defect in some docsis 3.0 modems that could cause latency spikes which could affect gaming so I would look into that if I were you and come to your own conclusion on that.
are you getting comcasts phone or are you planing to use voice over IP?
If your getting comcasts phone your options are limited to modems that support it.
If voice over ip,then no restrictions really modem wise.
If your getting comcasts phone, then atleast new, I dont see any modems that can support 400 mbps and voice in your range
If your not getting comasts phone then
Something like

https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-download-960Mbps-XFINITY-CM600-1AZNAS/dp/B06XGZBCKP
plus some cabling should be right around $300
that gets you a cable modem that can support your 400 mbps,a router that can route that fast with 2 open lan ports and an access point for wifi.
You can do 400 mbps over Ethernet on this set up,400 over wifi I imagine would be possible in the very best of conditions.
Get a new modem. Before the installation person came over I looked up the list of approved modems that had the speed I wanted and bought it off Amazon. I've never needed to reset it. Here's a link.

Get this one to get close to 1gb speeds, and not have the Puma issues. Works great on my network with my EEROs. I had the 6183 at first, and had nothing but compatibility issues with EERO with it. And my provider would not update it.
I ended up going with the Netgear CM600 (https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-download-960Mbps-Certified-CM600-1AZNAS/dp/B06XGZBCKP), which is based on the Broadcom BCM3384 chip. I would have gone with the CM700, but they switched to the Puma 6 at that point (it's probably fine, but after dealing with my last modem I don't want to chance it). Looking around, the CM600 seems pretty solid, so hopefully it works out!
Edit: Also, on a non-technical level, it has an on/off switch, which is sooo much more convenient than unplugging it if I need to reboot it :)
I use the Netgear CM600
The spectrum modems aren’t horrible. They first gave me a Arris TM1602AP2 and I got expected speeds. But had the puma issue. In some markets they’re giving out this modem for even the 100Mbps tier
All spectrum modems are free, and if you want the WiFi its $5 with the 100Mbps plan and free with spectrum ultra.
If you end up grabbing your own, I would recommend the Netgear CM600 or the TP-Link TC7650. The CM600 comes highly recommended by most people and Spectrum themselves - probably the best two commercially sold ones for the 400/20 tier and lower. Gigabit requires a Spectrum modem (DOCSIS 3.1) at the moment. I assume Spectrum will allow customer-owned DOCSIS 3.1 modems at some point next year.
Oh, and an edit to my previous post: here's a link for the same exact netgear product but $20 cheaper after a coupon. It's out of stock for a few days though.. but in my experience amazon often ships before they say they will.

You may have to click manually the (frustration free packaging) and then click the model on the bottom, 960mbps (24x8) to get the one with the coupon.
