There is also the Arris TM822R and TG862G but those are only being sold as used/refurbished so it can be a coin toss if Comcast accepts it (usually because it was one of theirs originally) - plus both are only 8 downstream channel modems so you are limited to speed plans no faster than 200Mbps.

Everyone needs TorGuard to OpenVPN to thousands of nodes outside the country. And they need DD-WRT routers and if they have to have comcast they need a 3rd party modem suchas Netgear CM500V

Comcast has a FTP server inside your LAN with their router -- it shows up on AVAHI, and their routers sometimes get infected firmware by the Chineese to get into your LAN if they're interested in your stuff.

You can always get one gen older docsis 3.0 for a bit cheaper. However, everything is.moving to 3.1 now. A bit more $ for reasonable future proofing may be a good tradeoff. My 2c.

I just did some quick searching around, and it seems the Netgear CM500V is gonna be the best bet.
Its a 4x16 cable modem with voice, recently approved by comcast. IT has no wireless, so if you are using your own wireless AP, this would be the way I would go. It uses the Broadcom chipset, so it should be stable.

Its a lot lower in price too.

Personally, I'm partial to Netgear equipment so a modem that supports voice is https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075XGZ6GL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_4YFgAbJM1Z490

You'd obviously still need a router because that's just a modem/emta
