My son is 8 and has been coming on runs with me since he was 4. We've gone through a few brands and found Nike to be the best all-round option. He found the New Balance shoes too wide with a lot of lateral foot movement. Adidas always fit well and were generally good, but we found they degraded pretty quickly. The Nikes fit him well, don't break down at an unreasonable rate, and aren't too expensive, all things considered.
