The first listing on Amazon for 'Switch Dock' shows just the switch dock. LINK

> my only complaint is I wish the extra cables would come included

To address that concern, there's actually a dock set that costs $90 which includes the dock, HDMI cable and the AC adapter.

And with your IT experience, I feel that that in itself is a testament to why $60-$90 for the dock as a port replicator isn't overpriced considering what it is and maybe people are just getting weirded out as to why an accessory that connects your console to a TV costs so much.

You're in luck! The 1st-party dock just dropped to $59 on Amazon (and it ships from and is sold by Amazon, so it's not some shady reseller):

You’re probably sitting in one of these right now aren’t you?

I have to say man that seems like the hardest piece to misplace. What happened!?

u/fostermatt · 5 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

It's on Amazon for the same price too (probably just matching the Target sale).

u/Salimonyous · 5 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

Amazon has the same deal right now, too.

u/s0n0fagun · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

Amazon is listing it at for $72.99 Amazon Link

u/nint · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

>You have to a USB-C PD power adapter still.

is there a source for an acceptable adapter that is $20 or less? Because right now the official dock is $87.50 on amazon, and it comes with a power adapter and USB cable.

otherwise these aren't that compelling if you are looking solely for a cheaper switch dock.

u/oneOK · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

Amazon is selling for the same price currently. link

u/jupoawp · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

It's right here: https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Dock-Set/dp/B06ZZ6FGGL

I don't think you can get it cheaper(without a sale). It wouldn't be profitable at all for Nintendo to make a "cheaper" alternative. This is the price they sell docks at, that's very unlikely to change.

u/Mcubic00 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I'm pretty sure I saw them on Amazon. I'm in Ontario.

The general consensus is that there aren't any safe third party docks.

https://switchchargers.com/faq/ if you scroll down, you'll see the question "why is the dock so complicated" that gives you an idea of why. So if you want a replacement, the official one is the way to go. Here's an Amazon link, seems like it's 70 bucks. https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Dock-Set/dp/B06ZZ6FGGL/

u/Smart_Ass_Dave · 1 pointr/Games

$59.99.

Though I suppose your point stands that its too expensive.

u/sdf_iain · 1 pointr/Switch

There are 4 retailer links:

Amazon is someone price gouging for $160.

GameStop is selling them used.

Target Sells a third party dock, but doesn’t carry them in store.

BestBuy has a store brand dock that they carry in stores.

My question is... will the insignia dock brick my switch?

As others have pointed out, many games on the Nintendo Switch allow you to play with just one single JoyCon (one "half" a controller). It's not the best way to play games generally, but it works, and it's going to be the most versatile controller you can get, so you may just want to get one more set of Joycons for a total of two pairs. The Pro Controllers are really nice, and they are my preferred way to play games (I think they just feel better), but they're not necessary.

Mario Party is a decent game, but many complained that there just wasn't a whole lot of content in this version of the game. It's not bad, but it may be a bit disappointing.

The absolute best game you can get for a couple of youngsters for the Switch is going to be Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. It's an excellent game that looks great and plays great, is straightforward and easy to control, and has pretty wide appeal. Honestly, this is one game I think very nearly any Switch owner will like.

Captain Toad Treasure Tracker is going to be another good one for your girls. Not only is it a good game that's age -appropriate for your girls, but it has a co-op mode as well.

I also recommend World of Goo, a game that has you building towers and bridges to get a bunch of goo balls to an exit pipe.

I also recommend getting a good MicroSDXC card so you have plenty of space to download digital games, as there are quite a few great games on the Switch you can only get on the eShop. It looks like right now you can get a 128GB card for $15, a 256GB card for $28, and a 512GB card for $70. You don't have to buy this brand, but you should definitely get a card that's either made by a reputable company or one with a decent number of good reviews, as some manufacturers sell garbage cards. To give you an idea, games on the eShop range in space, but an average game will take up anywhere from a half a gig (or less) to as much as 32GB in some cases. And be aware that even if you just buy physical games, you'll still want storage space, as some games sold in stores only contain a download code.

Go ahead and head over to Nintendo.com and set up an account so you can start getting digital games as they go on sale - especially with Black Friday around the corner, expect to see some decent sales coming up. There are a few games on sale right now that you'll probably want to get, since they're decent titles and age-appropriate for your kids: Don't Die, Mr. Robot is an arcadey-style game where you're moving around trying to avoid enemies. Ninjin: Clash of Carrots is a cutesy arcade brawler-style game (like the Ninja Turtles games or Double Dragon) with some good co-op action. And Car Quest is an interesting game where you're driving around a fantasy realm and unlocking more of it as you explore. All of these are on sale for under $1.50, so it's not like you're taking much of a chance on any of them. You can see all the games currently on sale on this page:

https://www.nintendo.com/games/game-guide/#filter/:q=&dFR[generalFilters][0]=Deals&dFR[platform][0]=Nintendo%20Switch&indexName=noa_aem_game_en_us_release_des

(hopefully that link works... not sure if Reddit will take issue with all the punctuation in it)

Oh, also, especially since this thing is going to be handled by young kids, you want to get a tempered glass protective screen for the thing, and maybe a case too. I'm sure the last thing you want is for one of the girls to drop the thing and break its screen. Oh, and if you want to have a set up in multiple rooms, you'll want an extra dock. As much as you might be tempted to get a cheaper one, you'll want to get a dock that Nintendo makes - third-party docks have a bad reputation, and some have been known to damage the Switch.

Hope this helps!

Then just use a power bank or cell phone charger for now, and wait for the full Docking kit to get a discount.

That way you can get your extra dock and charger.

There have been reports of 3rd party docks bricking peoples Switches, so please refrain from using those. You can get one here on Amazon.

u/sweetnumb · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I was just stating that I figured the dock, which is what I was talking about, which IS one hundred thirty five mother fucking dollars, which is INSANE... anyway I was talking about how I expected that to be overpriced similar to how the controllers were. Here's the direct link for reference https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Dock-Set/dp/B06ZZ6FGGL/

Hilariously it's nearly $140 now for that dock. That's so ridiculous to me for what it is. Or you can get this for 30 dollars: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TS5TL7Y/

No chance of bricking your console, just isn't Nintendo-made. Granted, you need to add the cost of the power adapter as well that comes with the Nintendo dock, so that's $30 from what I can see for the official one, or $24 for the amazon version which is a pretty safe purchase. Either way it's less than half the price of the Nintendo dock and has in my personal opinion has a far superior design.

So it's not sparing 40 dollars, it's sparing ~70 dollars. And it's not putting the hardware at risk because I research things before I buy them. You look at what caused bricking in the first place, and you can use an oscilloscope to see how much voltage and amperage the dock delivers to the switch since it's very much a power regulation issue. Luckily Skull & Co has a review video explaining what causes the bricking issue and shows the oscilloscope readings on various docks to show why one caused bricking vs the official nintendo dock that doesn't.

As far as durability goes, I've put constant hours into Tetris 99 with no issues so far, but I'm not sure how it's possible to truly judge durability with any accuracy until well after the next Nintendo console comes out. Every controller I've bought so far feels almost impossibly well-built. The latest EXTREMELY cheap one I bought is the only one so far that I can imagine having issues down the line, specifically with the dpad. But then again that's better than having an unusable dpad out of the box from a brand new 60+ dollar nintendo pro controller.

However, let's say the durability does become an issue on the 30 dollar pro controllers I have. Unless I whip one of them at the wall then it's extremely clear that they'll be working great for a fair bit of time. I've been using my main Gamecube controller for nearly 20 years now and it still works as my other ones that have barely been touched. And even though it's still going and probably will be for years to come, let's just pretend 20 years is how long it was able to last and for argument's sake that the Nintendo Pro Controller will last that long as well. Well, if my knockoff lasts for ten years, then did I really come out behind?

Even with how popular GC controllers still are for Smash, you can buy an original official Nintendo controller in perfect working order from ebay for 25 dollars (give or take if you're willing to buy a pack of six or if you want to buy one that has actually never been opened). So even if this cheaper pro controller IS less durable (which I doubt in the first place), I get more utility AND I come out financially ahead compared to if I had bought a Nintendo Pro Controller. If it seemed like something that would break in a year then it would be a totally different story, but this thing feels much more solid then any Gamecube controller, so I can't really think of any arguments against getting the cheaper pro controller other than to trick yourself into thinking it was worthwhile to spend the extra money on the official controller so as not to feel like you wasted money.

But even anyone who bought an official Nintendo Pro Controller didn't waste their money. It's still a good controller if you don't play Tetris 99 or SNES games with it, and more importantly it's an important lesson to learn in future financial management. Everyone makes mistakes and buys something they otherwise wouldn't have with more information, but that's a good thing. Losing 30 or 40 dollars now to save thousands in the future? Seems like a pretty sweet deal to me.

I’ve read many reviews saying the Switch does not follow mainstream conventions for the way it distributes power from the charger, that is why 3rd party docks are not recommended. Here’s a link to just the dock that Nintendo sells.

A dock at $60?! Pfft! Try $90 MSRP!

I agree with you one million percent, though. There is NO way the dock is worth nearly $100 after tax.

I have a pre-order in for the Nyko Portable Docking Kit, which I was luckily able to get for $44.99, before the price went up to $49.99.

Honestly, I still think even $45 is high, but I'm much more willing to pay $45 than $90.

If we were dealing with literally any other company, I'd agree that the JoyCons may go down in price as technology improves, demand decreases and manufacturing costs decrease. Since we are talking about Nintendo, though, I really doubt they'll drop the prices... ever.

Just look at how much a new Wii U Pro controller still costs today ($50+), for a "dead" console. I can get a new DualShock 4 on Amazon for less than that every day, often around $39.99.

Interesting. Amazon and Walmart $60 too. Do we have a revision in the works? Only time will tell.

Yes, they sell standalone docks. For example: https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Dock-Set/dp/B06ZZ6FGGL

They also sell cheaper third-party docks, but those have been known to brick consoles.
