Just started 'modding' this month. Here's what I bought and can recommend.

This battery: Sont VTC4 18650's. I bought two of these from a redditor for under 15$ shipped. For my use they last well over a couple days.

This atomizer: Infinite TOBH Atty v2.5. I bought a Tobeco mistakenly and should have got this Infinite. The center post is machined into the deck and is much more sturdy and looks to have better hardware. If I were to buy another one, this would be it.

This charger: Nitecore i2. Everyone had good things to say about this charger plus it has a ton of safety features to prevent overcharging and incorrect installation. Even though it has these features, I still recommend you be present while charging your batteries!!

This eliquid: Juice is all up to YOU. Try everything and decide what YOU like. Bombies its just good to me so that's what I recommend. Wasnt a huge fan of their White Gummy B but the 'nana cream is just delicious.

This accessory: I don't really have a recommendation but the next thing on my list to buy is an Ohm Meter.

Good Luck and have fun unlocking the FLAVOR!!

Lemo Drop: http://vapenw.com/lemo-drop-rba-by-eleaf - $33

Sigelei 100: http://vapenw.com/ajax/index/options/product_id/685/ - $75

Samsung 25r x 2: http://vapenw.com/mod-batteries/samsung-inr-18650-25r - $20

Nitecore i2 Battery Charger: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KBEJ6SC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - $14

This is the exact set up that I run (except I use the efest 3100mAh batteries) and I love it. It'll run you $142 and you should be set for a long time.

Start here. I'm a soon to be IT guy and love using my mech as well as the tinkering, so I am sure you will too.

As far as beginner setup a tobh RDA is easy to build on and a Nemesis mech is usually considered a good starter. The mech isn't as necessary to get a "starter" because it is kind of hard to mess up. You would be fine with a Stingray, 4nine, Vanilla, Penny, or Caravela. I have a 'Vela now and wish I had it as a beginner mech. Either way you go make sure you get copper or silver plated brass contacts.

Nitecore charger from Amazon is what you want and I would get either Sony vtc4/vtc5 or Samsung 25r batteries. 26 or 28 awg from Amazon. The rest you should have around the house. I started wrapping coils around wooden toothpicks, but since your IT I'm sure you have a precision screwdriver set. Just plain old cotton balls are fine for wicking(I have never boiled cotton and have never had problems).

Feel free to ask any questions. I hope this puts you all in the right direction.

Edit: Forgot to mention, I got a multimeter off of Amazon too. Here it is. Also, I added some links of where to get a few things.

I recommend this Solarforce M9 with this Nitecore i2 charger and this Keeppower 3400mah battery. Should be right about $100 total for everything. If you can find them cheaper on other sites, be my guest.

The Sigelei 100w does not have on-board charging. You will need a standalone charger for your batteries.

The below chargers should work just fine for charging your batteries and aren't too horribly expensive to boot.

Nitecore i2 2 Battery Charger

Nitecore 4 Battery Charger

Sure will, but you're gonna want to get a dripper to really enjoy the wonderful world of mechanical mods.

Oh and some quality batteries, and a charger.

u/graffiti81 · 2 pointsr/electronic_cigarette

The nitecore i2 and i4 are fairly decent. I've got a i4 (the only difference is the 2 is a 2 bay and the 4 does 4 at a time) and I've had some issues with build quality, but it hasn't hurt a battery in several months of daily use.

Efest also makes a digital charger that is also supposedly pretty good, but it's also like twice the price of the nitecore. Here's the i2 for $12

Amazon isn't the best place to order from, but if it gets you off cigarettes then absolutely go for it.

If your budget allows, I'd get an ipv mini with some Samsung batteries and a nitecore charger.

For the tank I'd go with the Aspire atlantis and extra coil heads.

This setup will get you great flavor and vapor with lots of flexibility and even room to grow into rebuildables if you so choose.

For juice I'd recommend a sampler pack from Vapewild. They have good quality juice and it's very inexpensive.

I'm really loving the IPV2. Battery life is amazing (1-2 days of use). The micro USB port on the mod allows you to charge the removable battery directly in the mod. I like the fact that I can swap out the batteries, though. I keep one battery charging in an external charger (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KBEJ6SC) and one in my mod that way I'm never tethered to an outlet. I have not had to swap the adapter yet. I also haven't had any problems with the touch sensor. I actually find myself using the power button to fire the mod instead of the touch sensor, but I like that the touch sensor is an option.

All that being said, I'm not sure if this mod would be right for you. If you're definitely not going to get into the rebuildable world, the 50 watts is completely unnecessary. I planned on rebuilding, that's why I got it. I will tell you that vaping on a rebuildable completely blows away any standard tank I've used in terms of flavor and vapor.. and it looks awesome.. http://imgur.com/yCYNPgE. There is an IPV1 that only goes to 35 watts, but I'm not sure if you would even need that. I'm definitely not an expert (started vaping in May) so I don't know if there's a standard tank out there that would benefit from higher wattages.

I know this doesn't really help narrow things down for you.. sorry!

$15 for a couple 18650s and $15 for a decent charger isn't really that much of an investment. Especially if you only have the iStick 50.. one day that thing is gonna die and you'll wish you had a backup.

I recommend the Intellicharger i2. I've been using the i4 for my vape batteries for the past couple years and it's been holding up well. I also use it to charge my IMR 14500s.

u/Odparowalnik · 1 pointr/electronic_cigarette

I don't know how reliable amazon really is for batteries, but you can get a good charger for 13 bucks with prime.

How much cheaper do you need to get? I'm not sure I would use anything under $10 when this is so much better.

Edit: Removed item description.

u/IAM_BillyMays · 1 pointr/electronic_cigarette

Please for the love of your batteries don't buy that!

You will more then likely spend more on it at radioshack for an inferior charger.

This one is only 13$ and they also make a 4 cell charger too

u/amalyse · 1 pointr/electronic_cigarette

Charger

Battery

The Sony VTC5s are about 10 bucks more for the pair, but the VTC4 is the same, just with 500maH less.

You can also find the Efest 35amp purple batteries pretty cheap, as well as MNKE 20amp. I just perfer sony.

That charger is really good for the price. The i4 is great, if more expensive.

u/Nikon_Justus · 1 pointr/electronic_cigarette

I wouldn't get a kit, they usually come with crap batteries and chargers (speaking from experience)

I would get them seperatly Vamo v5, Charger and Batteries = $69

I love my Vamo's

u/kurzondax99 · 1 pointr/electronic_cigarette

USB 3.0 ports are blue inside the port. USB 2.0 ports are usually black, or occasionally white, but never blue.

USB 3 has a max current draw of .9 amps, whereas USB 2 is a max of .5 amps, meaning USB 3 would probably be ideal. I use a Nitecore charger for mine which works great.

I have read several times that charging via USB is not recommended. With the IPV2, I also don't believe you are supposed to vape on it while charging through the USB port, though I lost the manual for mine, so not sure.

u/bahnburner · 1 pointr/electronic_cigarette

I use a VTC5 in mine, just because it's what I have, but anything with atleast a 12a max discharge rating will work. The Samsung 22r or LG HE2 come to mind, some of the eFest's might not be too bad...

Just looked at your links, the batteries are fine but dat charger doe... For a couple bucks more you can pick up a brand new Nitecore I2 charger from Amazon. Batteries and chargers are never a good place to skimp on spending.

u/blhylton · 1 pointr/electronic_cigarette

Okay, assuming those are real (I have my doubts when it comes to FastTech), those are 10A max draw batteries. Not really a big deal if you don't plan to sub-ohm, but these Samsung 25Rs are honestly a better buy and will carry you safely all the way down to ~0.275 ohms should you ever decide to build a low resistance dripper.

As /u/sadosmurf said, the Nitecore charger can be found on Amazon for a bit cheaper. Actually, you could get the Nitecore i4 for just a little bit more than what you're paying for the i2 on FT.

u/APrestigeWorldWide · 1 pointr/electronic_cigarette

I have used trustfire - under supervision...never had an issue with it. I would still pick up a nitecore charger. Can be had for cheap off amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/i2-2014-Intellicharge-EdisonBright-converters/dp/B00KBEJ6SC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1409964726&sr=8-1&keywords=nitecore

then you have no worries!

u/B_crunk · 0 pointsr/electronic_cigarette

I agree with /u/StonedGiraffe in that The IPV mini is probably going to be the way to go with that budget. You will also need to get a batter and a charger.

IPV mini $50

Atlants $32

Total: $82 + s&h

Edit: The Samsung 25r would be a good battery to use. I recommend getting 2 so you can switch them out if one dies. Also, a Nitecore charger would be the way to go.

Edit 2: Alternatively, you could go with a cheap mech clone instead and still get a decent vape with the atlantis.
