Personally...

  1. Warm water shower/bath beforehand, leave shaving for last

  2. Choose your shave cream/lotion wisely... and always test it on another body part first
    >My personal recommendation: Shea Moisture Utility Bar ... silly name, marketed for men, but seriously the best thing I've found yet!
    >2nd option... I've also found that combining Eos shave cream with Nivea in-shower moisturizer works really well 👌🤷‍♀️

  3. Use a new razor EVERY TIME.

  4. Use some sort of soothing lotion specifically for shaving afterward, but beware menthol! that shit burns like a mofo 😭
    >Personal recommendation: Nivea Sensitive Skin Post-Shave Balm

  5. Still struggling?
Talk to your doctor &/or dermatologist.
They have things they might be able to give you that can make a difference, especially if you have sensitive skin or a previously unnoticed skin condition.
    >I've wound up seeing them twice about it- once as a teen, and now again in my mid-20s)

    REMEMBER: use your best judgement!

I'm just someone on the internet whose skin struggles with shaving, so I've experimented quite a bit. Even with all this I can't shave often... 😓

Shaving is not good for your skin, so some good aftershave will help to moisturize and restore it. I use nivea sensitive post shave balm that I get from a store near me for about $5 or $6. Target and Wegmans carry it, if you have those near you. Give it a try some time. It'll make your skin feel great!

Hot water dries out your skin, and especially after shaving and showering you should try to re-moisturize your skin.

Thats why i use a After-Shave-Balm like this one that combines sterilization and hydration.

For me it works wonders in preventing nearly everything from dry scalp to red skin irritation and pimples, so I hope this helps you, too.

Post shave skin care.

If you knick yourself, a styptic like My Nik Is Sealed is nice. The ones with the roller ball is cleaner to apply than the chalky crayon type.

When done shaving, apply a witchhazel, a shave balm, and then if you like, an aftershave. With Proraso, I like the following. These are also popular "standard" products.

Thayer's Medicated with Aloe Vera . Witch Hazel without a scent doesn't smell good. Thayer's brand does pleasant scents. This one has alcohol, and they also make without, but I recommend try with first.

Nivea Post Shave Balm. This is also often available in regular stores, like Walmart.

Clubman Osage Rub After Shave. This menthol scent after shave isn't so much a standard, but IMO the way it numbs your face it is a must have. Refreshing in the hot summer.
