You can totally buy the Lumia 521 (Tmobile) at Walmart, on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Nokia-Lumia-521-T-Mobile/dp/B00COYOAYW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1374178780&sr=8-1&keywords=Lumia+521) and straight from Tmobile...

There's a Lumia 521 for 45 dollars. Sell your old one as non working It's not Android and it's probably not what you want, but it's a capable smartphone that will text and receive calls. Trade in your old phone for a few bucks.

Grow up and take responsibility for your actions. It wasn't too late to do anything about it, you're lying, companies don't send recall notices that expire 5 minutes after receiving it. You came here wanting to circle jerk with everyone and maybe have someone give you a phone for your horrible situation. Not happening.

Now fix the situation you're in and get your shit together. Otherwise, this is how your whole life is going to be. You'll sit around and wonder why you're the victim of everything and why everything is so hard for you.

Stop making excuses, swap out the phone, move on.

If you can afford to pull the trigger, I'd say pay that extra expense for the Galaxy S3. It really saves money down the road to not have to replace an aging phone, after all EVERY device has a time frame of intended or 'planned obsolescence.'

Also consider Windows Phone 8 - More specifically the Nokia Lumia 521.

Now I know many of the number of apps aren't there, but your usage seems to not require a whole lot. The thing with budget Android phones is that many of them are garbage and sluggish and it really only pays off to have the higher end ones. WP8 and iOS aren't as resource heavy as Android and can run on just fine on lower end hardware. Also, WP8 phones tend to have great battery life.

That being said, if you still really want an Android that can get you by, I'd go with a Galaxy S2

As the IT guy for your company, and since your boss seems to come to you for help with her phone fairly often, it may be worth $70 to learn how to use it. Naturally, both your first instincts were correct.

Saving image to device storage:

  1. Tap image to view full image rather than just the thumbnail.

  2. Tap "save" button at the bottom of the screen.

My guess is that you long-pressed on the message bubble, which gives you the context menu for the message, not any contents (which could be any or multiple of an image, video, map/location, text, audio... you can see how putting the content options here would get unwieldy if multiple media types were embedded in one MMS).

Forwarding an MMS with attachment to an email:

  3. Long-press the message bubble, select "forward".

  4. Type an email instead of a name or phone number into the "to:" bar. Hit send.

I tested this 15 seconds ago with my own device, and I know it's had this since the beginning.

As with anything, if you learn to use it, you'll find out it's much more capable than you originally thought.

Ok, so I mistyped a bit. the 520 is on AT&T, the 521 is on T-Mobile, sorry about the confusion.

The 521 is the supposed increase in processor, but I can't find any information on Nokia's site and wikipedia states they are the same, aside from slightly different dimensions.

The 520 is $99.99 on Amazon.

The 521 is $94.99 on Amazon.

If you want a cheap smartphone, get the Nokia Lumia 520 or the 521.

Here's a link to all Amazon sellers for it as the default vendor isn't their own, lower-priced stock, which is out of stock at the moment but they won't charge until shipped so I'm going to sign up to have an additional phone in case my 920 goes to shit.

Best Buy, $130

Walmart, $130

Amazon, $150

T-Mobile, $150

It's not an incredible deal from the HSN, its just a really inexpensive phone. Wish it had a flash.

Oh, ho;

That opens up a lot of possibilities; if you're okay with considering other month-to-month carriers, I'll give you a breakdown;

  • Straight Talk and Simple Mobile both offer a no-contract unlimited everything service for $40~$45/mo., and they are T-Mobile compatible - which means, you can buy any T-Mobile Phone and plug in the SIM card . . . and you're set! I'm personally using Simple Mobile's service on my Lumia 521, still locked to T-Mobile, it works just fine.
  • MetroPCS also offers the same $40/mo unlimited no-contract plans, and they also use the T-Mobile bandwidth.
  • Page Plus offers a $30/mo no contract option as mentioned in my previous post, and they're compatible with almost any Verizon phones in the market. CDMA phones are a bit more tricky than simply plopping in a SIM card - you have to re-register the phone through their website but it's a fairly straightforward process. If you do decide on Page Plus, I'd recommend Kitty Wireless - a reseller, but at the same rates and their customer service is better.
  • Boostmobile does have some compatibility with Sprint phones, but there are limitations, and the process seems a bit more complicated than going Verizon>Page Plus. I was looking at doing so with a HTC Evo 4G LTE(Sprint) that I was able to get for $170 from Ebay, but the process was too much of a headache so I gave up and ended up selling it on Ebay.

What does this mean? Well, you have more options for phones if you're flexible with other carriers - based on your options I'm going to assume you're looking for a smartphone in the $200~240 max range.

    If you're looking for new

  • It does look like you're skewed towards Android phones, but I have to recommend the Lumia 521/520(T-Mobile) (specs) - you're simply not going to be able to get the same level of finish or functionality for this price for a new Android phone. It's a great little phone for what it does.
  • It is a bit over your budget, but you cannot go wrong with the Nexus 4(unlocked - works as long as you plop in a working SIM card)(Specs) - its specs blow anything else out of the water for its price, a great phone.
  • It is locked to MetroPCS (again, it uses the same frequencies as T-Mobile - just like Simple Mobile - so you shouldn't have connection issues if your friend doesn't), the LG Optimus L9 has comparable specs to the phones you were looking at - in fact, it has a slightly better display resolution - and it's $120, considerably cheaper than the Boostmobile options you're considering.

    If you're okay with used

  • Ooh boy, the world is your oyster - look in Ebay or Craigslist for used phones in your range, and you won't have a shortage of great phones in your price range - The One X(AT&T - you may have to unlock this one), The Droid Razr M(Verizon), The Galaxy SIII(T-Mobile or Verizon) - they're all flagship phones from a year ago (not so sure about the Razr M), offer superior specs to the phones mentioned above and frankly, you won't be able to really tell a performance difference between this year's flagship and these phones outside of a benchmark. Assuming you're okay with used, you can find a mint condition phone at around the price range you were originally looking at. Of course, you will need to do some digging to find a good condition phone in your price range (haggling works in scenarios like this) make sure you do your homework before pulling the trigger, but I've had pretty good luck buying from users with high ratings or meeting up in person to check it out before buying.
  • You can get even a better deal if you are okay with non-flagship phones, like the HTC First(AT&T - you may have to unlock) a perfectly capable phone marred by non-marketing by HTC - but because of that, you can find fantastic deals on those phones just because they're not that popular. Looking them up on Craigslist around my area, I'm finding them listed for $180 OBO fairly often.

But that does take a bit more work, and it's not for everyone. Good luck finding a phone and I hope you're happy with whatever you decide!

First I've heard of it but cheers for making the switch.
I suggest going to a Verizon store to find out exactly how much it will cost to break contact now and how much it will go down every month. For my parents plan, they're saving upwards of $140 every month by switching to T-Mobile and don't worry about limits. If I were in your shoes, I'd probably by a bunch of ~$100 phones, switch to a well covering contact-free carrier (T-Mobile in my case) and eBay the old phones ASAP.

The Nokia 521 is a steal of a deal at $95 if you're OK with a windows phone. Dual core 1ghz, 0.5/8gb, 5mp camera w/o flash, great build quality, under $100- pretty sweet deal really. http://www.amazon.com/Nokia-Lumia-521-T-Mobile/dp/B00COYOAYW
Now if only I were smart enough to learn how to install android on one.

T-Mobile Windows Phones are pretty cheap and are actually not to bad to use:

If you're okay with used phones you can look at the T-Mobile section of Swappa: http://swappa.com/devices/t-mobile/us

That's a good suggestion. I found This

Do you think a discontinued phone will be an issue?
