Reddit reviews Nyko Charge Base for 3DS

Unfortunately, no dock. The bigger battery means I can't use the OEM dock so I'd have to track down one of these or 3D print something. The battery can be charged regularly while installed in the console though so it's not all bad.

Actually, I have an idea now. I can likely design and print a dock that will accommodate the extra girth. I'll probably base my design off of the existing OEM dock to make it easier to build.

edit: Alternatively, a N3DS style dock would be pretty damn easy to make, especially since it already exists and would need very little modification to work.

My 3ds keeps dying so I would like this.

I used the Nyko Charge Base when I had an original 3DS and I really liked it, especially with the charging dock. You can buy the battery by itself for half the price if you want.

Also, something like this would have made a lot more sense...

I remember it getting some love from a few websites claiming that it'll be double the battery life of the 3DS at the cost of increased bulk.

You have some kind of battery issue. I would talk to Nintendo or you could buy an aftermarket battery to see if that works.

i prefer the 3ds because it folds so it fits better in my pocket. also, if your charge port is fucked up you can get this which i don't think there's an equivalent for on the 2ds.

did you already buy the console? if he wants to carry it around with him i would highly recommend an original 3ds (not xl) and this battery pack: http://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Charge-Base-3DS-Nintendo/dp/B004SJFJUA

it comes with the charge stand as well as the extended battery. it is still pocketable (the xl is not easily pocketable) and the battery life will be excellent with that battery pack i linked.

i'm 28 and have pretty big hands, and i don't carry a backpack anywhere so while the 3ds is comfortable, if he carries a backpack or wears cargo pants/shorts he might be fine carrying the xl with him. either way i highly recommend skinomi tech skin for protection : http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dvideogames&field-keywords=skinomi%20tech%20skin%203ds it takes about 1.5 hours to put on but then it stays on and it really is like thin clear armor for the thing.

if you have a normal 3ds, get a bigger battery, they add some grip to the system. I have been using one from Nyko, best $12 i ever spent on my 3ds (accessory-wise). Hope this helps!
