I am a paraplegic and get the exact same pain with handhelds. Grips have been a lifesaver! I tried skull & co.'s kickstarter grip and a cheap rubber one off Amazon before sticking with Satisfye's Switch grip. I have big hands and it was the only one large enough to comfortably play with. Edit: They JUST launched all new products but I have their OG Switch grip.

I have other branded grips for my N3DS XL and Vita, but forget what they are (I think they're Japanese brands I found on Amazon), and they're comfortable and work great.

I suggest buying a handful off Amazon to try out and then keep the one that works. They're all made slightly differently so you wont really know until you have them in your "grip" :-) .

Good luck!

Edit: I found the exact grips in my Amazon purchase history (all from Amazon and I live in the states).

Welcome!

As most here will tell you, the wiki does a pretty bang up job of answering most of your questions as far as game recommendations goes. You can find it here.

The best games for the platform will all depend on personal preference, but a solid base is always the Vita's stellar exclusives. Gravity Rush, Persona 4 Golden, Danganronpa and most recently Severed are all notable titles you might want to check out.

Battery life on my Slim is pretty good, and you can squeeze more out of it if you turn off WiFi when you're not using it. There are also third party grip cases with built in batteries that can boost the battery life even further, and make the console even more comfortable to hold.

Multiplayer servers will be on a game by game basis, but I think they should all be up and running. You might just run into problems with games where their respective audience have moved onto greener pastures.

I hope this was helpful, and I hope you enjoy your Vita if you take the plunge! :D

Honestly this is probably the best grip I have for my vita. I have had it for about 2 years with no problems. It even extends the battery life, which is another plus for those games you just can't put down.

If you have large hands the vita is very uncomfortable to hold. I wouldn't buy the trigger grips, I'd buy the Nyko power grip because it has a place to wrap your fingers around on the bottom. It's way more comfortable to hold now, just not as portable.

u/florencemorph · 6 pointsr/Warthunder

Playstation vita, remote play. You need wifi and a PS4 to do it, but it has been reported to work at 160 miles away from the ps4..

The grip accessory I have are Nyko PowerGrips.

u/aznkat · 5 pointsr/vita

This is the grip I use for my Vita. It's super comfortable and I don't really feel a need to attach anything to the analog sticks.

u/coma420 · 4 pointsr/PS4Pro

No joke, the grip for the Vita from Nyko was one of the best purchases I've made related to the Vita. So much more comfortable.

u/talkingwires · 3 pointsr/vita

A few thoughts:

  • Get a Nyko Power Grip. Helps immensely with the ergonomics, makes the Vita feel like a console controller.

  • Try having your Vita connect to your PS4 directly instead of over your router. Doesn't help much when you're away from home, but helps when you are.

  • You open by saying, "I was expecting a portable AAA gaming machine as was initially promised in early marketing. A machine that I could play ps4 portably and reliably." If you bought it this year, you should have known the dreams of the early marketing "portable console experience" died a long time ago. You really only have yourself to blame for that one.

Seconding the glass screen protector. I got the same one and it's awesome. Fits fantastically. I bought the original version too for my fiancé's Vita and it likewise is a great fit. Slightly curved edges too so there's no rough border.

As for a case, I don't use one. I bought the Nyko grip with the built in extra battery and carry my Vita with it in a 10 inch padded tablet case so I don't need to carry the parts separately.

I absolutely love the Nyko grip; it adds hours and hours of battery life and the Vita and the grip can be charged through the same port on the grip itself so I never have to remove it. Plus it's so much more comfortable to hold the system for extended play.

I absolutely love my vita! I originally got it for a Christmas present on black Friday last year and only wanted it for remote play. At first, I felt the remote play was horrible because the cramped controls.

But then I bought this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00G9X4YRM/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1421123363&sr=8-2&dpPl=1&dpID=413RZxs4l1L&ref=plSrch&pi=AC_SX200_QL40 and it's been a game changer!

I now play Destiny, BF4, and GTAV at about 90% (DS4 100%) whereas without the grips I was at around 30%. I use it whenever someone needs the TV or when I just want to go outside and chill in the hot tub.

The only negatives I've experienced are that you can't voice chat with friends while using remote play unless you have an amazing wireless headset connected to your PS4 and you need faster than 5 mbps internet to remote play away from home. Other than that I personally think the vita is worth purchasing for remote play if you can't always be on your TV and you don't want to disconnect it and move it all the time.

Your gaming life will change when taking a shit with remote play.

I use Nyko's Power Grip. Not only is it comfortable but it also comes with a battery to give your Vita extra game time.

https://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Power-Grip-Vita-PCH-2000-playstation/dp/B00G9X4YRM

I've been using it for a while and I cannot stand playing the Vita without it. It feels flat and very unergonomic.

u/blueskyfire · 2 pointsr/vita

I love my vita but almost never play it. I use it when I travel but honestly lately I haven't been playing any of my gaming systems. If you like gaming and have the free time to spend on it the vita delivers a great experience. My only suggestion is to get something like one of these:

Hey there. If you are on a business trip in Japan again in the future, use Amazon Japan! You can ship to conbini (Convenience stores) near where you work / sleep. You don't pay anything for the pick up. SUPER convenient.

My suggestion will always be the [Nyko Grip](Nyko Power Grip for PS Vita (PCH-2000) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00G9X4YRM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_ZYJtxbBSK5WNM)

You should consider getting a grip! Two grips that might be good options:

The Nyko Power Grip is very comfortable and it has a battery in it that can double your Vita's battery life. I don't have one myself, but I've heard amazing things about it. Only caveat is it seems some of their batteries are poorly made so some unlucky people end up getting batteries that either don't work at all or stop working within a month. But it's supposedly really comfortable either way. It might be a bit bulky and take up a lot of space though. Hopefully other users can weigh in on it.

L2/R2 Grip is the one I use. I find it really comfortable, and I love that it comes with extra L2/R2 buttons. It might be an unnecessary luxury, depending on the games you play. It's been super helpful for me though, especially for ps1 ports that require the l2/r2 buttons. Megaman Legends is a game that used the l2/r2 buttons, and the vita port gets around this by mapping those buttons to the rear touch pad. It was a pain in the ass for me to reach around and hit those precise spots, but with this grip, it's no longer a problem.

A grip definitely helped me with longer sessions. This is the one I picked up. Works like a charm.

This is what I use. The grip is great, and the inbuilt battery basically doubles playtime. It's not as bulky as I expected either.

EDIT: There's a version for the 1000.

Congrats on your new purchase, I got something similar to what /u/SupaBloo recommended:

I bought myself the nyko power grips

They are a bit bulky so they aren't for everyone. But there are a bunch of different grips for sale.

Almost forgot make sure you get the right version 1000 fat or new 2000 slim vitas

I believe that the nyko power grips are already out for the slim. If I'm not mistaken they're on amazon.

If not, check eBay.

Edit: found the nyko grips on amazon.

I just got my Vita a month ago. This is what I have so far:

FFX HD

FFX-2 HD

Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions

Street Fighter 3 Alpha

Mortal Kombat: Unchained (It was $1.24 on the PSN Store)

Rayman Legends

Madden NFL 13

Twisted Metal 2

Dragon's Crown

Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational

Wipeout 2048

God of War: Ghost of Sparta

Dragon Ball Z: BOZ

Rogue Legacy (free with PS+)

CounterSpy (free with PS+)

Ys: Memories of Celceta

They are all pretty solid, I don't dislike any one of them. So far I have been having a blast with Dragon's Crown, and just got Ys.

My Wishlist includes:

Capcom vs Marvel 3

Mortal Kombat (the new one)

Diseaga 4

Persona 4 Golden

Need for Speed: Most Wanted.

As far as accessories, I went nuts. I have the following stuff, and again, I don't regret a single purchase so far:

Butterfox Double Compartment Carry Case

Nyko Power Grip for PS Vita

PlayStation Vita In-ear Headset

32GB PlayStation Vita Memory Card

ArmorSuit MilitaryShield - Playstation Vita Slim

Happy playing!

u/EatDrinkBoogie · 1 pointr/PS4

I'd absolutely 100% recommend getting one of these bad boys.. extended battery life, and it's pretty comfortable to boot. I game for hours on the Vita with this. This one is for the newer slim model:

http://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Power-Grip-Vita-PCH-2000-playstation/dp/B00G9X4YRM/

Big fan of the Vita's remote play feature, too. Works great with the a solid internet connection.

u/Eisrep · 1 pointr/vita

If you're worried about battery life, get the Nyko Power Grip.

It just about doubles the battery life on the vita slim while being an overall great grip--less hand cramps!

As for games, you might want to try out the PSP game Persona 3 Portable (available as a download on the PSN) either before or after P4G. Both games are really good for sinking a bunch of time into--it'll take plenty of flights to finish each.

u/Auld_Fahrt · 1 pointr/vita

Get a set of handles.

u/ZoopZeZoop · 1 pointr/vita

I have the Butterfox case and really like it. However, I use the Nyko Power Grips, which won't allow me to close the case. So, I bought the Amazon Basics Case, which works perfectly for my needs. Because the Amazon case is not made for the Vita, you will need to carry game-protecting case (e.g., this one) if you want to carry multiple cartridges with you.

u/MaddMaxx636 · 1 pointr/vita

The only accessories I got when I ordered my PS VIta was the Amazonbasics (Sony Licenced) and IMO its perfect.

The only thing id probably get would be is the Nyko Power Grips for the 2000.

I use this Nyko Power Grip on my slim model and it adds about 4 - 5 hours worth of battery life to the system depending on the game you're playing.

The Nyko Power grip is my favorite without a doubt, its comfortable and more than doubles battery life, although it is a bit big. Tried the PDP trigger grips, but it made the triggers too mushy and my hands still cramped while using it.
