I would invest in a Pop Filter and/or a Wind Screen; they're relatively inexpensive, easy to set up, and they filter out a lot (if not all) of the hot air coming from us and keeps it from making those popping sounds and the breathing sounds that you seem to be picking up.

No. If you're going to invest money for something used in room level recording like this, you buy a condenser microphone, preferably with a large diaphragm. Dynamic microphones require entirely too much proximity to the element for this sort of thing, unless you're just faking it and can afford to maintain perfect distance. You also have to drive the gain/preamp/whateverUSBconnectedmicscallit too hard in order to get decent pickup of subtle noises vis-a-vis a condenser mic.

If you're hung up on dynamic, opt for an omnidirectional model, not cardioid, as you'll go off center from the sweet spot far more frequently with the latter. I've used both, and preferred a heavily coloured omni which lower levels simply because of movement.

Also, the response curve on this thing isn't exactly stunning, with roll off starting about 120hz and with a 10db hump from 2K to 10K.

Also no. Never, even. The sponge these things are made from will rapidly deteriorate leaving particles all over your shiny new element. Windscreen or deadcat, sure, but not a sponge.

Samson comes from the same factories as Behringer. Behringer has a reputation for making cheap clones of real equipment, plastic in lieu of real metal, cheap SMD components, and poor quality control. YMMV, but for what people do around here I suspect no one will run into any issues.

The Behringer C1u comes in at less from reputable dealers than your dynamic suggestion. The B1 comes in ~50% more. The B1 supposed is natural, where as the C1 has some colouration to it, but I have no hands-on with either.

That doesn't qualify as a recommendation, but I will say you could probably do a lot worse.

I see in the comments below that you've already returned it, if you are willing to use a mixer the setup I would recommend to start would be:

Behringer Xm8500

Windscreen

XLR Cable

Behringer Xenyx 502

RCA to 3.5mm

All this is less than $80.

A stand like this would work well, and it is still below $100.

Here is a sound sample I found on YouTube.

Once you have more money to play around with for dynamic microphones look into: Shure SM58, Shure Beta 58, and the EV ND767A. These will run you roughly $100-$150.

Once you have a use case for condenser microphones look into: AT2020, Samson C02 Pair, and MXL 770. All of these will run you roughly $100, however if you went with the Samson C02s you would need more inputs and therefore a different mixer.

There are many types of windscreens. You can get a plain black one like this. You can get colored ones like these. Or you can get a multipack like this and change them out like a toothbrush to keep your microphone clean. =)

Yeah what you're hearing is clipping. There's not much to be done and can't really be fixed without a re-record.

Some potential tips for next time, if it's through a standard phone mic tell them not to speak directly into it or the mic could clip. You can try to use speaker phone if the environment isn't too busy. If you're using a computer or USB mic use some sort of windscreen (link to Amazon) to help protect from plosive sounds ("puh" or "buh" sounds) and too loud an input. Also if possible it might be helpful to record each voice independently, that way if one side needs post processing but the other doesn't you can do just that.

I recently faced this exact same issue. I game in my basement where it's fairly noisy. So, what I ended up getting is the below list. It works great and does a really good job of not picking up my KUL-87 MX Clear keyboard, the clothes washer/dryer, HVAC, my noisy overclocked computer, and so on.

You can use this with just USB or also go the XLR route into a audio interface where you can use compression, cutoffs, and other features to improve things even better. For a time I did this using my ZOOM H5 but right now I am actually going XLR then directly into my soundcard via a XLR to 3.5mm adapter. My Soundblaster Z has some fun software "enhancements" for mics that I can use this way.

Microphone suggestion:
Depends on if you want to buy a audio interface (XLR-USB) and a mic or a combo. I started out with a audio-technica ATR2100. Its a great mic for the price and you can use it without an usb interface.

Comes with a little stand and and you can hook it up to USB. I would get foam cover for it so you don't pop your pees. (Heck I'll send you mine for free)

Or you can get the humungus Blue yetti mic all the streamers buy.

I have a Heil PR40 I use for my recording and radio stuff.

You will need some boom arms, which you can get pretty cheap, but you shouldn't need a full pop filter. It's already fairly good at getting rid of plosives, so you can just get the cheap foam covers and they will work fine. I don't think there is a huge difference between the H4N and the H4N Pro, at least not that will make a difference for this mic. I have the H5 (which gives pretty much the same gain as the H4N pro I think) and it works fine for anything but a few of the dynamics that need tons of gain, like the Sure SM7B, so you should be good with that for an interface.

No. That's a wind screen, not a pop filter.

It will slightly protect against blowing air, but a plosive is your mouth sending a wave of air and sound blasting into your mic all in one point. You need a pop filter centered a couple of inches from the mic to diffuse that air, not a windscreen wrapped around it.

Though the Great Spum hath already spoken, I'd like to offer my two cents. Music is fantastic for the atmosphere, though it drowns out her voice sometimes. I could easily seeing this getting a following, she is very...would I say kawaii? If you don't know that term, it's a specific type of lovable cuteness found in Japanese culture. If there was music that lasted throughout the video, and a clearer voice (you can get a fairly high quality mic for 20 bucks on amazon, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FK62FSY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&amp;psc=1 is what I use with http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002GXF8Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&amp;psc=1 as a pop filter, though you can search through a plethera of mics). I might suggest having her play with friends, seeing how it goes!

Here ya go. I used to have it clamped the same way but on the far edge of my desk. I prefer the way it is now as I have a little more control over where it is at any given moment. I also prefer to lean back in my chair so the center position aimed right at me works perfectly.

the one you linked is good. but this one is better. its by the same company, and its a usb plug n play microphone. its one sale until jan 4, and right now its only like 5 bucks more than the one you linked.

Also, this pop filter is good price. you also get some foam to cover the mic with. Hopefully this helped you, and if you buy all three before jan 4, then its should be around 30 bucks

True, but you could keep something nearby your rig, like a bead case or a pencil case with pop filters inside. Or, if you decide to go the dynamic route, they come in different colors (The ones I look to purchase), which could be easy to spot. Thanks for the well wishes, best of luck to you, too!

Yes, it is silly overkill, but it is extremely comfortable to use (just pull in the mike) and I got tired of shitty mikes. Being Cardioid it works perfectly sitting next to my face rather than stuffed into my mouth, so eating and drinking is a non-issue. The stand means it takes pretty much no desk space. The mixer of course does, but that was already there. There's also a USB version of the 2020.

I was just looking at the Behringer Ultravoice XM8500 and it seems pretty damn solid. The guy I was watching the demo for had one of these xlr to usb cables which run pretty cheap, and seemed to work pretty damn well. I would reccomend a foam ball though since Ps and Bs do get a bit poppy, I just picked one up and it was well worth the $2. Last but not least a decent mic stand which is the same one I use, and it works really nicely.

This is pretty much a modified setup from what I originally got, so it will do you just fine. It's also a dynamic mic so you won't pick up literally everything in your house with it. There's a couple of videos on youtube of people using it, and it sounds pretty damn good.

Go with the classic Shure SM58. Use a bit of compression so it brings your speaking voice up and your shouting voice down. Use a boom stand like this to mount it. Dynamic mics don't work very well when they are far from the sound source so make sure the mic is close enough and use a windscreen like this one.

Haha, that's a pretty funny trailer - good job! Just a couple notes for improvement:

Get a mic windscreen like this or this - or if you really want to be DIY, just use a sock or some pantyhose. The voiceover (while hilarious) pops a little, and a screen (and a little more distance from the mic) should fix it.
The 'Ridin' Dirty' song is great, but you're begging for Youtube to slap an ad on your trailer once the copyright holder finds your video. Maybe swap it out with some of Youtube's own free AND royalty free music?

I use anchor its awesome, the support team is always really helpful and quick, plus they post almost everywhere.

If you already have a mac book tho you can record right into it. if your budget is around 1000 you can get some nice stuff. My set up rn is just a zoom H6 and two audio technica mics and a pop. If you want a nice headset thats not too expensive I like these.

The zoom is nice because it can double as a mixer and it portable, the mic can plug into your computer through usb so your not just stuck recording into the zoom.

You are not the first person to use a microphone in a loud room or stage. Key things to watch out for to prevent accidental overdrive activation:

Keep the handle of the mic pointed at the speakers. The "business" end will pick up any and every sound aimed at it. This includes surround speakers to either side or behind you.
Use a mic stand. The RB4 Mad Catz and PDP microphones do not have any sort of shock mount. Moving a finger on your hand will be transmitted as noise through the handle to the mic capsule. If you are on a wooden floor and/or bounce around a lot, put the mic stand on a rug or towel.

Vocal overdrive activations are very much in the spirit of the game. If anything, I'd say that using a controller is against the spirit of the game. Vocalists on a stage don't liven up the crowd by pushing buttons.
