(I assume we're not being asked to judge the selections on Judaism and Islam.) What an impressive reading program! Yes, there are other Christian writers I would like to see included, and there are many I would have liked to see excerpted at a greater length than five pages; considering the whole scope of the anthology though, I can see the need to be slightly shallow in the treatment of each writer and era.

I don't think I'll be overburdening you by suggesting the following for more depth:

  • From the Bible: all of Matthew and John. They're really not that long.
  • After Tertullian, add On the Incarnation and certain letters and sermons of St Gregory of Nazianzus.
  • When you get to the excerpts from St Augustine's Confessions, read the whole thing.
  • After Saint Francis of Assisi, add The Soul's Journey Into God.
  • When you get to Orthodoxy, read the whole book.
  • For C. S. Lewis, add Mere Christianity.

That said though, I would consider someone who had read that much of the Bible, and who knew even a little about all the other writers in that anthology, to be well-informed about Christianity.

I'm actually more interested in reading the Christian books, since I've read pretty much all of the popular atheist literature:

Orthodoxy

Mere Christianity

But of course there's good atheist literature too:

HPMOR and others that I'll think of and post later I suppose.
