So scary!!! Have you thought of getting her a slow-feed bowl? I got one for my boy when he was a puppy and it really helped him slow down while eating and stop choking on his kibbles.

That's the one that I got my pug. (Sorry the link is Canadian Amazon lol).

I look after a vv dumb but cute dog when her person is away, and she has the same problem. Her person found that a bowl like this was super helpful with the speed eating. Still uses a standard water bowl, but the post-food puke sessions have stopped ever since they switched the food bowl!

I'll play!

/u/sugarfish7 - I saw this and if it's for your pup, you have my sympathy! We had to buy one last year for our Saint mix, and man, it helped! What kind of pup do you have?

I also saw this...and didn't even know it was a thing. Now I do!

/u/AlligatorPie - you have an [electric kettle](https://smile.amazon.com/Ovente-KG83M-Cordless-Electric-Kettle/dp/B00KY4CTY2?ie=UTF8&colid=21GNU93J702YL&coliid=IZ19PUBYF15OE&psc=1&ref=wl_it_dp_v_nS_ttl) on your wishlist! I love it! Are you a tea person? If so, what's your favorite? (If you're not a tea person, what's the kettle for?)

You should probably remove all of the referral crap. I think there are rules against that on reddit.

I also added the smile at the beginning for charity.

We don't worry about it unless it's after strenuous exercise. If she's eating after running around, we wait until she's done panting, which can be up to 20 minutes. Sometimes we use a slow feeder to be safe. Normally she eats her food in about 30 seconds, but with the slow feeder it's more like 4 minutes. We use this one in the small size (fits up to 2 cups of food)

I had this same issue with my Corgi. He would scarf his food without even chewing it. I purchased this slow feeder food bowl and it's been the best thing for him.

My corgi had a problem eating so fast she would hack and caugh sometimes throwing up. If eating too fast is normal it can potentially cause bloating problems over the long term but if this is isolated I wouldn't worry. Just monitor.

It was regular enough of a problem that she would out eat my Labrador so we bought her this:

Jumping in to recommend the Bob-A-Lot that I got my dog a few months ago. It seems to be a little more work for her than the Kong Wobbler since you can adjust the hole that the food comes out of. If I don't feed her out of that, I use this dog bowl. Another good way for me to wear her brain out is to take the meal with us on our walks and train a little as we go.

Just recently my friend got me this toy and she loves it. She'll pull all the toys out and play with them for a while, then wait while I stuff them back in again.

Good luck!! I really hope you get to keep your pupper!

Unless it becomes a persistent problem, you don't really need to stop him from playing, but I wouldn't rile him up any further. If you're worried about him eating too fast, you can get a slow feeder. Something like this where he can't really scarf the whole lot down at once. Even if you don't think it's a problem, it can be a more engaging way for your dog to eat... works his brain a bit more.

u/Barricuda223 · 1 pointr/puppy101

I find relying on the grip of the dish is not a reliable since it can get dusty and lose friction easily. You could also try a slow feeder (link) as these are pretty much impossible to spill over even if he tries to put his paws in them.

u/muffinsweater · 1 pointr/dogs

I bought one of these and one of these. Hopefully she gets the flip board. She only likes toys that are food related so I want more enrichment for her.

I was thinking of getting her one of these treat balls for her food too.

She eats soooo fast and then she burps so I am getting worried about it! I have been trying 3x a day.

u/scaliwag77 · 1 pointr/Dogtraining

It's not necessarily aggression (it doesn't seem like people food aggression at all; might be different if another dog was around), but you really don't want him eating that fast anyways. It could lead to digestive issues/possibly even contribute to bloat (not too sure on the bloat, but I've seen it claimed plenty of times).

Get a slow feeder bowl, such as this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00L3O4JI6/ref=asc_df_B00L3O4JI65140595/?tag=hyprod-20&creative=394997&creativeASIN=B00L3O4JI6&linkCode=df0&hvadid=167141013968&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=748921194058616413&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9002162&hvtargid=pla-306669570633

u/thewardrobenerd · 1 pointr/dogs

Could you get some sort of slow feeder that you then put the food in and froze? That would definitely hold a full meal although he may have more difficulty moving it around.

Another option might be squishy silicone bowls assuming you aren't leaving him unattended in case he decides to chew the bowl also.

u/TerryCruzLeftPec · 1 pointr/gifs

use this guy. It slows down feeding time so they don't inhale their food which causes digestive issues.

Amazon has several different ones, this one works great!

One thing you could try is putting a ping-pong ball or two in the food bowl or buying a slow feeder bowl like this one. The idea is to stop the animal from gulping down the food and slow down the overall time spent eating to prevent vomiting. Though, if vomiting continues or other symptoms pop up I would definitely consider a vet visit.

I got this (the large size) for my dog because he vacuums up food. It would be gone in 30 seconds and I was so worried about bloat. Now it takes him a good 3-4 minutes to eat which is amazing considering how quickly he can inhale food. But I like that he has to work a bit for his food. They have to move around the bowl, lick in different spots, nudge the kibble with their nose, etc. Just watch and make sure they don't get frustrated and paw at the bowl or tip it over, haha. Ours did that once and I just picked up the bowl and took it away, then gave it back, and he hasn't pawed at it since.

Kongs stuffed with goodies are also fun, frozen makes it even more challenging. Sometimes I put half of my dog's dinner in a kong with some peanut butter and it'll take him 20 or so minutes to get through it, and then he's usually exhausted and passes out like we just went for a run!

Something like this: Outward Hound Fun Feeder Dog Bowl Slow Feeder Stop Bloat for Dogs, Small, Teal https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00L3O4JI6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_1mcSBb4HT61VC

There are lots of different formats. Point is to slow down the eating

u/RedeRules770 · 1 pointr/dogs

They could try investing in one of these

It helps with dogs who throw up because they ate too fast

u/JustAnINFJ · 1 pointr/puppy101

I vote yes! My shiba used to finish half cup of dry kibble in a few minutes when served in a regular bowl. While he never regurgitated after eating, I noticed he'd occasionally get hiccups after meals. I bought this from Amazon and it has extended his eat time by at least 5 times and I haven't observed any hiccups since. I wash the bowl every 3-5 days.

u/supervinci · 1 pointr/greatdanes

Are you feeding him in a bowl, or a way, so that he eats more slowly? We use a combination of things for this: first, the bowls are elevated and they're the ones like this. I also have a hollow, rubber globe/ball that has a hole in it i fill with food, along with a kong, in which I fill with food. It amuses her (and us) to watch her eat. And she is extremely food-motivated so she'd eat all her food in 10 seconds otherwise. The other thing you may think about is if there's any activity that you all do, or do with him, which coincides with the one month periodic problem. Eg, we have 'steak night' once a month and I was giving her the T-bone, which she threw up the next night.

u/ThorOdinson · 1 pointr/puppy101

My pup did the same until we got him a slow feeder bowl. This is the exact one I have and it worked wonders for my lab.
