Make sure you get a big bottle of this and one of these if you do.

Also not an answer, but this OXO bottle brush works really well for Nalgene bottles, HydroFlasks, coffee brewers, etc. It will not fit through a narrow mouth Nalgene though too.

And just wash them by hand after every feeding.

Someone will probably chime in with something like "but it's not STERILE and my babies will DIE", and my rebuttal is: no they won't.

You're probably getting the bottles CLEANER than a dishwasher since you don't let milk/formula dry in them (DON'T leave them for a day, you get dried milk in corners), and you're actually scrubbing them instead of just spraying water around and hoping some of it goes in the bottle.

16 bottles is plenty, since you'll be washing them after each feeding and they'll be dry for the next one.

If you haven't figured it out yet, the nipples can't really be machine washed anyway (they can, but then they degrade VERY quickly) so you're hand-washing something regardless. Might as well do them all. You can still run the bottles through the dishwasher on occasion if you feel like it.

>Kinda like you don't really ever have to wash out a water bottle if you only use it for water

Only if the bottle never touches your mouth, otherwise your bacteria will eventually develop a film on the inner surface of the bottle. Efferdent/similar is a great overnight soak that, combined with a brushing, will make your bottle like new again.

I'd say this is probably not an issue though considering the rocks will be immersed in alcohol when they're at risk of being exposed to bacteria.

I'd get this fruit tea pitcher and the bottle cleaner brush to go with it.

u/Inigo93 · 5 pointsr/CampingGear

Or, ya know... a bottle brush.

u/BlixQuoy · 3 pointsr/BuyItForLife

Of course! I ordered this brush along side my Zoijirushi. In my mind a brush of that style is absolutely necessary for properly cleaning this thermos. It also works great for the plethora of other water bottles and mugs I own.

After I finish my on-the-way-to-work protein shake breakfast, I leave my cup in my car all day, so you can imagine how annoying dried protein residue is to clean. When I get home, I drizzle dish soap (Dawn, Palmolive, etc.) around the inside and let it drip down to the bottom, somewhat coating the sides of the cup. Use a decent amount (a few teaspoons or so); no pea-sized drops here. Then, I fill it with water and microwave the soapy solution for 2 minutes (you can just use hot water if you have a good hot water heater. I only use the microwave to avoid letting my sink run until the water is hot). Afterward, just let it sit for 20+ minutes. Come back later after the soap has broken down the residue and rinse with hot water. Shake it with the cap/lid on first if you see some lingering residue that hasn't broken off.

Dish soap is made to eat away grease and oily stuff, so just let it do its work. When I worked in fast food, doing dishes started off with letting them sit in a hot water/soap solution for a while, and that almost always took everything off.

If you find that you still need to scrub, get something like this. Usually the soak/rinse process does a good job, but sometimes you will just need a good ol' brush.

This is the teapot I currently use the most. I tend to be very nitpicky when it comes to teapots so this fits many of my desires for how my 'perfect' teapot should be designed. The only gripe I have is the filter is very fine which means I have to use a bottle brush like this to get all the leaves out. However it steeps pretty well and does not absorb flavor since its glazed and thus can be used for all varieties of tea. Also it doesn't drip when you pour it like many other ceramic teapots with thinner spouts.

Is your bottle stainless steel on the inside? If you get a steel bottle, soap and hot water is almost always enough, but if you need to get really strong smells out you can use baking soda.

Neither technique involves reaching into the bottle, but if you really do need to scrub your bottle from the inside, why not just buy this for $5, instead of spending $40 on a bottle that doesn't even have insulation to keep your drinks cold?

Bottle brush is the key for me. Dishwasher never did it well enough.

We use the ivory dish soap and the OXO bottle brush (they soak in hot soapy water for about 10 min). I've found that sterilizing the nipples and random hard to clean pieces helps to keep them looking cleaner, we use this one.

u/ruindd · 2 pointsr/LifeProTips

Also, just get a bottle brush. They're brilliant.

This one is great. Stiff bristles at the bottom, softer on the sides.

If you have trouble washing glassware with your big man-paws I highly recommend getting a soft bottle brush (not to be confused with a hard nylon scrub brush). I have one and use it exclusively for hand-washing glasses and travel mugs. (Make sure you keep it away from anything that will get it gross, like a dirty skillet.)

You could buy a water bottle brush like this

u/GameboyPATH · 2 pointsr/NoStupidQuestions

How often do you wash it? If you strictly use it for coffee, and you rinse it out, say, at the end of each day, you could just use water. Or you could greatly reduce the amount of dishsoap you use.

If that doesn't work, you could buy something like this, meant to more thoroughly scrub the insides of hard-to-reach containers.

u/dale_shingles · 2 pointsr/triathlon

Don't let it sit around, especially if you used something sweet like Gatorade or Tailwind that are great food sources for bacteria or mold. Use a bottle brush

u/ShadwPhantm · 2 pointsr/Hydroflask

I personally use this bottle brush when it needs a good wash: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00004OCLJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_KDjxCbB52251G
If you find yourself using it for water only, a quick rinse with a little bit of soap will do the job.
If it ever retains smells which is rare but has happened to me, denture cleaning tablets do the job, fill it with warm water, drop in a tablet and leave it for 15 min, and your bottle will be nice and clean. As for the cap, I normally pop out the seal with a fork or a knife if you are careful, wash both the cap and the seal with warm water and soap and fully dry them before putting the seal back in. If you leave moisture in between the seal and the cap it will grow mold.

I picked up one of these or something similar. Seems to work well for me and the stainless never seems to hold any smell/flavor though I mostly only put water in mine.

I have really stinky feet, what i have always done with my shoes and slippers is.

  1. 1/2 cup of vinegar 1/4 cup of baking soda 1/4 cup of water mix well and put 1/2 of cup in each shoe let it sit for about 20 min.
  2. get super hot water going and start rinsing the shoe out i use an old glass scrubber ( bottle brush )

  3. then after all the grim and foot gunk is out I put about 1/4 cub of hydrogen peroxide in each shoe that will kill any smell left over.

  4. let them dry out or put them in the dryer with a couple towels.

also another trick i have is rotating shoes and slippers it makes them last longer and helps the stink.

AWESOME CONTEST!!!!

  1. Hair Dryer and bottle brush

Once upon a time, there was a hair dryer. The hair dryer belonged to Rapunzel. Rapunzel made the hair dryer feel very wanted, because it got used for 3 hours while Rapunzel dried her hair. Unfortunately, this got the hair dryer very dirty. One day while Rapunzel was drying her hair, the hair dryer died. Instead of trying to fix it, Rapunzel got angry and threw the hair dryer on the ground and set out to by another one. The hair dryer was very sad. Eventually, the bottle brush asked the hair dryer what was wrong. The hair dryer said "I used to be wanted, and now that I can't blow dry Rapunzel's hair anymore, I feel very lonely. I want someone to turn me on and use me like Rapunzel did for hours every day." And so the bottle brush got an idea. "Let me clean you out so Rapunzel can use you again. I'm sure once I get into you, you'll feel like a brand new woman." And so all afternoon the bottle brush cleaned the hair dryer, working himself in and out of her until all the hair was gone. When they were finished, the hair dryer said "Oh thank you! I'm sure Rapunzel will appreciate me without all that hair." And so Rapunzel came back after a day of no luck finding a new hair dryer and found her old one clean and hairless. Deciding to give it a try, Rapunzel went back to using her old hair dryer all evening long and loved it. The end.

    Schmad on my add on!

I have this brush. I usually just rinse with hot water after drinking a beer and then I just use the brush and hot water without soup before pouring and it cleans just fine. Also, rinse with cold water after hot water to cool down the glass so you don't warm your beer.

I've had trouble trying to clean the glass after use, air drying, and then pouring a beer. Somehow there's always some sort of dust or residue and I get little air bubbles sticking to the sides. Cleaning before use, even if it's a quick 5 second scrub with the brush, has never failed me since I started doing it.

Prepping 1.5 isn't exactly hard. Pour powder in, add water, shake.

Cleanup is easy, too. Just make sure to get yourself one of these.

Or maybe I'm misunderstanding you about the uncleanable pockets.

Kleen Kanteen. Stainless steel. Absolutely no change in the taste of your water.

If you forget your bottle in the sun or near heat, there's no leaching of chemicals into your water.

Safest bottle in my opinion.

Also invest in a bottle cleaner similar to this for 5 USD.

I've used several Nalgene bottles before. Once I switched to stainless steel, I vowed never go back to plastic.

Man, that's a bummer! I love my Zojirushi, looking forward to using it again now that it's getting colder. Maybe one of the methods above will help you. Do you have a bottle brush for it? I use this one here. It's not very stiff, but it helps get things clean.

Buy a bottle brush if you don't have a dishwasher.
