There is a danger of packing too much crap, but here is what I typically try to carry in terms of a med kit, this is the kinda stuff you'd go to a pharmacy for but depending on where you are you might have difficulty finding them or explaining what you want.

• Plasters, not too many but different sizes, enough so if you accidentally cut yourself you don't bleed over everything (have done this before and it was a pain, ended up trying to use toilet paper as a makeshift bandage, always carry plasters now)
  
  
• Immodium aka loperamide for travelers diarrhea
  
  
• Melatonin - Useful for resetting your sleeping schedule after long flights
  
  
• Codeine based painkillers - A lot of counties you can't buy codeine painkillers over the counter, personally paracetamol does nothing for me, so I usually take a pack of painkillers with codeine in them.
  
  
• Salt Rehydration tablets - Useful when you're out in the sun sweating a lot, you can often buy these locally but I normally have a few handy just in case.
  
  
• Magnesium Tablets - Probably personal to me but after long flight I get bad cramps in my legs when trying to sleep the next night, magnesium tablets normally get rid of them.
  
  Also finally on the subject of suncream, I agree in more 3rd world countries it can actually be difficult/expensive to find because the locals often have some native stuff they use (or just don't burn as much as I do). I recommend

  Although you might want the 100ml version so you can carry it on if needs be. Great stuff, apply once in the morning and you're good all day.
