There's a lot of material to work with, and I'm definitely looking forward to Season 3. If you're compelled by the story, there are several films and bios that go into more depth and/or are more accurate. I really enjoyed Pablo Escobar: My Father by Juan Pablo Escobar. He definitely has a unique perspective. (keep in mind he was actually 16 or 17 when his father was killed, not the kid we saw in season 2).

[Probable spoilers ahead]

So IRL, after Pablo was killed, Tata and his son spent a lot of time making peace with narcos. In reality, "making peace" meant they were forced to give whatever assets they still had over to lots of people, trying to appease them. There's a lot of drama here, and it make for at least a few solid, compelling episodes (my guess is it's a thread woven through season 3).

Escobar's immediate family then has some shady shit happen when they flee to Rio. And, Juan Pablo in his book talks a lot about how the extended family really fucked them before and after Pablo's death (working against the family with the feds). There's good stuff here. However, once they leave Columbia, the Escobars pretty much keep their noses clean until present day, so there isn't much more to tell.

Meanwhile, Cali rises to power (as you predict). Of course, there are other cartels, and Columbian history didn't suddenly become roses and sunshine once Escobar was killed. The DEA agents in the show actually stay in Columbia for quite a long time (I'd need to find their bios again to confirm when), so you have to assume they kept busy there...
