Dude. Wet shave.

  • Get yourself a safety razor. Merkur is the brand that everyone recommends and honestly I have nothing but good things to say about them. $40

  • Next, get some blades. Feather is the sharpest fucking blade on the planet. I'll probably get gripes about telling you to get this one first, because you can really do some damage with these. But they're really the best damn blades on the market. Cuts through a 2-week leave beard like fucking butter. This pack is ~$25 and will last you a year or more.

  • Last, get yourself some product to put on your face:

  • Cream from C.O. Bigelow. Eucalyptus feels nice as fuck.

  • Aftershave. I don't know if the caffeine effect is legit or just placebo, but I feel like I wake up better with it.

  • Alum Block The purpose of the alum block is to close pores and stop small cuts from bleeding. Stings like a bitch at times but works.

All of this costs you $85 in total upfront, but you'll only need to buy shaving cream and aftershave from then on out. The blades will last you a year and the razor a lifetime. I don't know how long it takes to run out of alum in that block, but I've been using the same one for 5 years and I can't see a difference in size.

I am a daily morning shaver who had serious issues when i used cartridges. Switched to DE and found the right blades and now have virtually no issues. You didn't say wether you finished the shave off with splashing as cold of water as you can on your face. When it comes to those blades I have found out that none of those work for my face. Which gilette 7 o'clocks were you using? I Really like the ones in the black box but absolutely cannot stand the Russian made ones. I also realy like perma-sharp blades. Someone else said to make sure you get a realy good lather and that's huge. More then anything I would say to just continue trying different things until you find what works for you. I cannot use alum because it completely fucks my face up, and a lot of people are not proponents of my favorite blades. Definitely listen to the recommendations that people make on this sub, but remember that everyone's face is different and ultimately it is up to you to figure out what works for you. I haven't heard much about the aftershave I use on this sub but anything else has fucked my face up, so it might be worth a shot www.amazon.com/Pacific-Shaving-Company-PS08-Caffeinated/dp/B00K7I82YQ/ref=pd_sim_194_3?ie=UTF8&dpID=41xjNt%2BxQfL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160SR160%2C160&refRID=06GEKDS95NYMSG5Y24ZB

Use a face scrub with salicylic acid in it to remove as much dead skin as possible. This will help reduce the likelihood that your freshly cut hairs will grow up under your skin. You'll want to do this daily, and on the opposite part of the day from when you shave. So if you shave in the morning, use the face scrub at night before you go to bed.

Follow each shave with a generous splash of witch hazel. This will help prevent/reduce red bumps and irritation. Let the witch hazel sit on your face for a few minutes and then rinse with cold water. Follow this up with a moisturizing balm, one with menthol or mint in it will help reduce irritation further. This will also act as a daily moisturizer to off-set the oils-stripping effects of the face scrub.

Pacific Shaving Company's Caffeinated Aftershave works really well for me and caffeine has been shown to restrict blood vessels when applied to the skin which may help to temporarily tighten the skin of your face which may also help prevent ingrown hairs.

Also pores do not open or close.
A cold towel may make your face feel a little better but if it isn't really helping feel free to skip it.
