/u/itsjustrobbieok - I think you'll like the Panasonic phone app - it is very easy to use and touch focus works a treat. You will also like the 360 degree, fully articulated LCD screen. But the [£699.95 12-35mm f2.8 lens] (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0086ODC3O/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1634&creative=19450&creativeASIN=B0086ODC3O&linkCode=as2&tag=hybrcamerevo-21) might be too slow for the lighting conditions at your gym.

You can save some money and get better low light performance with a [£448.97 Panasonic G7 body] (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00XVREKE6/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1634&creative=19450&creativeASIN=B00XVREKE6&linkCode=as2&tag=hybrcamerevo-21), a [£424.59 Panasonic 15mm f1.7 low light, wide angle lens] (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00JF52O9Q/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1634&creative=19450&creativeASIN=B00JF52O9Q&linkCode=as2&tag=hybrcamerevo-21) for self-shooting and a [£159.99 Panasonic 25mm f1.7 low light, standard focal length lens] (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B014X35XLU/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1634&creative=19450&creativeASIN=B014X35XLU&linkCode=as2&tag=hybrcamerevo-21) for your gym interiors.

That said, here's a shooter with a similar vlog using the kit lens and getting decent results (you would do even better with f1.7 lenses):

  • [NEW CAMERA! Late Night Gym Session by BacaFitness] (https://youtu.be/Yb-1pDbFa2w) (1080p - NSFW language)

[Here] (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCusdnWlWNoDpBUHdC_CHxtA) is his channel - the four most recent videos were shot with the G7

Another example with the kit lens at the gym:

  • [Panasonic DMC-G7 low light test indoor #04 by EYEINTHESKY.ro] (https://youtu.be/HUFGBaOlHu8) (2160p)

Bottom line - in my view, the G7 is easier to use for self-shooters and will give you better results than your Sony cameras.

Hope this is helpful and welcome to Panasonic!

For portraits, there's the excellent and affordable Panasonic 25mm f1.7 which will both let in a lot more light and allow you to blow away backgrounds pretty easily.

Sports is one of the most demanding and expensive things to shoot, especially at night or indoors. A long lens with bright aperture is generally what's used, and those can cost a pretty penny. You can get away with a cheaper option in daytime, but performance will suffer as light conditions dip.

Edit: Also what equipment (besides the D3300) do you have access to? It'll be hard to compare an £800 camera+lens budget if your school is stocked with £5000 worth of lenses and whatnot if that's what you're used to shooting.

The kit lens is good. I still use it in certain situations because it is versatile and it's not the end of the world if it gets broken. You're probably going to want something that's better in low light though.

I HIGHLY recommend getting the Panasonic 25mm f/1.7. It's a fantastic little lens and it's not too pricey as far as lenses go.

You're definitely going to want a tripod that is heavier duty than that, as well as a fluid head. And get yourself some kind of stabilizing solution for when you go handheld, even if it's just a cheap handle or something like that.
