I've heard awesome things about the Oliso Pro iron, which my mom has. They're so expensive, though. I have a Panasonic iron I bought on Amazon when my last one broke, and it works fine! Nothing special, but it gets hot and has an auto-turnoff, which is great. I think you could definitely get away without a water reservoir. I never use steam; I use some Soak Flatter when I need something to get really flat. Ooh, there's another splurge!
I got this one here, and have had no problems with it in the 3 years I've used it. Always use distilled water and don't fill past the max line. If you're unfamiliar with how to go about ironing, just hit up youtube and watch a few videos. After doing it a few times you'll figure out what works best for you. It might take you a long time at first but I can iron a shirt in about 3 minutes now, so just keep at it.
