For all the pilots get the refill cartridges at Staples cheaper than online.

Good (cheap) ink brands are noodlers, waterman's, diamine, and Parker.

Also r/fountainpens is a good resource.

Pentel EnerGel 0.7 mm are awesome. I've been using them forever -- they even say on the packaging that they're great for lefties because they dry SO FAST. After years of smudged papers and ink on my hand, these were a godsend.

I would go with the Cross. I had one for a long time, and I really enjoyed it. It wrote very smoothly. I've moved on to fountain pens now, but if I ever go back to roller ball, Cross is definitely my favorite.

While I enjoy a luxury pen, my preference for rapid note taking is the Pentel Energel. It rivals my fountain pens in smoothness, and just glides over the page. Honestly, I would say that it is smoother than some of the Cross pens I have used. The only drawback is that these go through ink pretty quickly; I used one about every 2 weeks in college.
