Fuck pepper spray. Pepper blasters homie. That shit gives you range.

40 bucks and you get 13 feet of directed pepper in the face. Plus it looks a hell of a lot more intimidating.

A friend bought me one of those small, $10 pepper spray units. The push lever was inconvenient and eventually broke and later the unit leaked all over my bag.

After a local breakin, someone bought me the Kimber Pepperblaster II, because it is easily aimed and has a trigger instead of a lever. I've watched some videos on youtube and it seems pretty effective at a distance of 3-9 feet. That should be your ideal distance from this guy if he shows up again. Any closer an you risk being in arm's reach and getting grabbed or hurt.

Hopefully you'll never have to use one, but if you do, be sure to get out of the area fast, as most deliver a cloud and can cause you to be affected as well. It gives me a sense of protection, when I do carry it, and I think that shift in attitude helps when others are looking to take advantage of someone.

The dog is a great deterrent and gives peace of mind. If you have a cell phone, you should keep it with you when you go outside, simply because this guy doesn't seem the type to back down, even if the police talk to him.

Also, program the police station's number in your phone(s) as "A Cop" so it is at the top of your contacts list. This way, if it isn't a 911 situation, but he is on your property and is making you uncomfortable, you can simply call them. You don't need to tell this guy you are doing so, but definitely report him and ask for a policeman to come by since you feel threatened and this person won't leave.

Sorry for the wall of text, but your situation is frightening. I really hope you keep reporting him until he either stops, leaves or gets arrested. Good luck and please update with the police's response.

Its basically pepper spray, but it comes out much faster and can cover farther distances.

Throw the BB gun out. I understand the thought behind it, but it's a really bad idea. It's not the kind of thing you want to bluff about.

This may be a better bet for you if you don't want a gun

It allows you to keep a decent distance and will disable most people long enough for you to retreat.

If any of you want advice on this, feel free to ask. If you want to protect yourself but don't want a gun, I recommend one of these Pepper Blaster.

Yeah, but don't mess with the silly canisters, get one of these That plus one of these is on me whenever I'm out at night.

The XT11GT would be much more reasonable for EDC. It has a 35mm bezel, whereas the XT12GT has a 45mm bezel. This means that, though the 11 is brighter, the 12 throws twice as far. It would be great for looking across a big field, but it would only light up a small area if you used it for up close work.

When I say the 11 would be "more reasonable for EDC", I only mean more reasonable than the 12. They're both a bit big for my tastes. Do what you want though.

And if you get caught in a situation where you feel threatened, I would just run away rather than trying to use a flashlight to defend yourself. If you really live in a dangerous area, get a pepper blaster or something. The only thing a flashlight can do for you is help you be more aware of your surroundings.

A pitbull tried to attack my (then) 10 month old beagle once. Thankfully I was able to pick her up and turn my back in time for it to bounce off me. The owner then came up and pulled it away. It could have been much worse.

This went into my cart shortly afterwards.

Get a Kimber Pepperblaster. It's a disposable, two-shot unit that basically addresses all of the flaws inherent with the typical canister-type pepper sprays. The most important being that it has a 3 year shelf life. Those cheap keychain pepper sprays slowly lose pressure and often have been dead for months/years at that critical moment when they're needed.

u/Omnifox · 1 pointr/guns

Your post, and post history are enough to cause worry.

Please, a gun is not likely what you should be thinking about for self defense if that is what you are actually planning on using it for.

A much cheaper, and more effective alternative would be something like a Kimber Pepper Blaster II.

OC Spray is NOTHING to mess around with. It will stop an attacker, and you will not be able to self harm with it if you end up in a dark place.

I carry this in my jersey pocket for this kind of shit: https://www.amazon.com/Pepper-Blaster-II-LA98001-Kimber/dp/B003L75SSI

What you should do, rather than let them chase you on a bike with a car:

Get to ground a car can't get to without seriously damaging it. Up a curb, onto someone's porch, etc.

Pull out your phone and call the police.

Pull the pepper spray out if they exit the car towards you, and fire it at each of them.

Get the hell out of there and run/ride away after that.

As others have said, get some pepper spray. It will at least give you a few seconds to flee if something happens. I deliver food and have one of these. It gives you two shots and is effective up to 13 feet in 1/10th of a second. Buy a spyderco tenacious if you still want to carry a knife.

Good read: "Should You Carry a Gun Outdoors?"

>"...But that’s just the act of carrying a gun. If you ever have to use one, things get much more complicated. It turns out that getting a gun out of a holster and actually hitting stuff with it in an expedient manner and under pressure is really difficult. To be able to do that, you’ll need to pursue professional training and regularly practice what you learn. And when you carry your gun, you’ll be accepting the most significant responsibility possible into your daily life. In the exceedingly rare event that you ever need to use that gun, you’ll have to be absolutely sure you’re making the right decision about ending someone else’s life, because if you get that wrong, it could be the end of yours."

Even though I would recommend properly and legally arming youself, pepper spray is better than nothing. I recently was in Chicago for a week with my wife and family and carried Kimber pepper blaster since I cannot legally carry there. My friend that owns a pawnshop highly recommended them.

>When someone walks up to your car window, and you roll it down so you can spray them, to me that's escalating things, and I don't see any good coming of it. You might even hit your passenger with some of the spray.

To be clear, I didn't brandish my pepper spray, but I had it on hand, out of sight, in case. I also opted not to use it for the reason you mentioned--I didn't want to hit my passenger or fill my own car with pepper spray.

The man was unlikely to break the window if he just had his fists, but I didn't know if he had another weapon which he could wield. I opted to prepare for that by rolling down the window so that I could spray him if need be, although I'm still not sure it was the best decision. I just ordered a pepper spray gun to keep in my car, as I no longer feel that regular pepper spray is a great defensive device in situations like that.

In retrospect, I should have taken more evasive action (turned off the main highway, kept moving, avoided stop lights) after the initial encounter when the passenger got out of the car and immediately called 911. It was just such a weird situation that I had no idea that it would progress in that manner. It really reminded me of A Clockwork Orange, in a sense. Why they singled me out and got progressively more aggressive towards me, I cannot say.

I did a lot of research on less-than-lethal options last year and might have an answer. my wife carries a kimber guardian angel pepper blaster. it has two shots, CO2 cartridges so there is no chance of blowback on shooter. I carry one when I am in locations that don't allow me to conceal carry my firearm. I have the grey one, she has the red one. You can get them at local gun stores, outdoors'y retail shops or online (amazon, midwayusa, etc.) http://www.amazon.com/Pepper-Blaster-II-LA98001-PepperBlaster/dp/B003L75SSI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1371642659&sr=8-1&keywords=kimber+blaster

A good middle-ground might be a pepper spray gun. A popular one is the Kimber Pepper Blaster. Similar to a gun in that it shoots a projectile with powdered explosives, but instead of a bullet its pepper spray. Good enough to get an attacker to stop attacking and not lethal.

https://www.amazon.com/Pepper-Blaster-II-Kimber-Red/dp/B003L75SSI here you go. The kimber is flat like a wallet. They also make versions with belt clips.
