You need to know the type of light socket that is in the hood. If it's a fluorescent tube you won't be able to use normal screw in bulbs without changing the socket. You also need to keep in mind the recommended wattage for the socket.

Even with a high tech, high light setup, I believe the 23 watt would be too powerful for a ten gallon. I'd recommend the clamp lamp you saw (the 5 1/2 inch one) and a 13 watt bulb like these for a ten gallon. It should still be in the medium to high light level.
