If your cat throws up for three consecutive days (at least once per day) or three times in a day, your cat needs to see a vet. If the throw up resembles coffee grounds, your cat needs to see a vet.
If your cat is throwing up mostly undigested food regularly, the problem may be that your cat is either speed-eating or over-eating. It's pretty common, as in the wild you never know when your next meal may be or if someone else may steal your food, and so eating as much as you can when you can makes sense. Not so in the home. If this is the issue, try a slow feeder dish. I use this one in black. My cat doesn't use it "right" (he won't put his paw in to fish food out, he shoves his snout in, so I have to push the food against the edges) but it nevertheless slowed him down and stopped his vomiting. I went to the vet anyway, by the way.
When changing foods, make sure to do so gradually. Add 10% of the new food, then 20%, and so on and so forth in increments until the old food is gone. Suddenly changing food in full causes/exacerbates dietary upset, just like culture shock on the stomach when people travel to places with very different food (I suffered this in Japan, for instance).

My cats used to snack throughout the day and then suddenly one of them was gorging herself and puking. To slow Little Miss Piggy down we bought this upside down bowl thing with holes around the edges. Mine is plastic and has a little cover so we just dump dry food in the top and they have to pull each piece out one at a time. The piggy one complained that it was some sort of torture device, but she figured it out. Sometimes they'll scoot it across the floor a bit, but they've never tipped it over.
