I couldn't find the original article but when you look at description of the game on Best buy and Amazon it states that it includes a digital token card to download the game not a physical copy. Pretty much what ea does with the sims lately just a box with a piece of paper inside but you still get the GCU discount.

Except that's how the gaming industry uses the term. It can be found in descriptions of games, advertising, and even on the front covers of games that are on one console and on PC. The reason I said I get where he's coming from because that makes sense, but that is not how the term is used. I've seen it used as I described on a regular basis.

We're not in a classroom and we're talking about videogames. Wikipedia is a collection of sources. The reason I linked wikipedia is because it accurately described how the term is used and isn't overly long. I didn't discover the term from wikipedia itself, as I said above, I got it from how the gaming industry uses it. Tonight was the first time I have seen the term on wikipedia, but it describes how it is used well enough, so I went with that.
