  1. Cold baby chew toys. Seriously teething around this age makes your life difficult. A hard teether is also really nice to have as well.
  2. Skip the highchair and go for a Fisher Price Booster. My son is 18 months and hates the regular high chair already. He loves being able to sit at the table with everyone else. This is the only "high chair" we've had and it's worked great These you can pick up at garage sales, thrift stores, Once Upon a Child really cheap.
  3. Lots of clothes. Baby's this age can be messy. Between the drooling, playing, and exploring food there will be a lot of changes in his future.
  4. a push toy. We have this car which really grows with the child.
  5. Sippy Cups: our favorite is playtex, all the other ones we've tried seem leaky.

Honestly I suggest checking out garage sales and thrift stores this weekend. That's where most of our kid's things have come from.

Things we have not had enough of over the years: Pacifiers (20.. not enough, when you lose enough to get down to 6), Bibs, Socks.
Other things we found extremely valuable: A rock and play, The woombie which is like an auto swaddle that stays swaddled, and This cool thing was awesome at teaching her to walk, and she still rides on it sometimes!

Things we had too many of: Newborn sized stuff, onesies especially. Towels. Blankets (minus swaddle blankets), hats.

push toy

walkeR and ride on -this was a favorite of my sons for a long, long time, and I've often said it was the best $ I ever spent, that kids loved it so much.

pull toy

If you want to up it, get wooden versions of them. They are learning to walk at that age, so toys that focus on walking are a really big hit.

Literally anyone of any age could enjoy the following toy.

That does not change it's intended audience.
