That build is $374. You can get a PS4 with Uncharted 4 on Amazon right now for $269, over $100 less. https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Slim-500GB-Console-Uncharted-Bundle/dp/B01LRLJV28/

You could argue online functionality though PlayStation Plus is entirely optional. But now that the cost of that is being brought up, I may as well point out that that build has no mouse, keyboard, controller or other input device factored in. Whereas PS4s at least come with a DualShock 4.

u/ejgbarlongo · 24 pointsr/PS4

Cheaper? They both cost around $250.

PS4

Xbox

In fact, the PS4 is actually $5 cheaper than the Xbox One.

> So why buy a XBox if you can play the exact same games on the cheaper Playstation 4?

This is a 1TB console, btw. I'd jump on this if it came with a game. The 500gb Slim is same price and comes with Uncharted 4. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LRLJV28/

PS4 Slim/Uncharted 4 Bundle is currently on same at Amazon for $250 if you're interested now. It's only $300 normally, so you're not missing out on that much if you want to wait to see if the remasters are good/not actually platform exclusive.

u/NekoLas90 · 7 pointsr/playstation

Brand new or guaranteed working used one. I mean, these shits is getting cheap as fuuuuck

u/Dezipter · 6 pointsr/GameDeals

Sadly, Many of us should have taken advantage of the 15% off earlier during Black Friday. But if you were unable to get one, this is about a great deal.

Feel free to go ahead and "a lower price" on Amazon Ps4 Pro , so more of us in the States can get in on it.

If you feel a PS4 Pro is over hyped, AMazon is running a PS4 Slim for 229 down from 249 Holiday Price Point

u/xorgol · 6 pointsr/europe

Are they? Or are you not taking into account the fact that US advertisements don't include taxes?

Edit: I've just done a stupid comparison. On Amazon.it the cheapest ps4 is €234, on Amazon.com it's $248, which is €222 at the time of writing. However, the US version bundles Uncharted. To me, those look like prices in the same order of magnitude.

You can get the PS4 in a bundle with a game for $199 on sale.

Amazon has em for $250-ish right now.

The Switch will be $300 and you'll have to hope to be able to find one and that's without any games. And the Switch has a very, very small library with no huge increase seemingly planned. Though they'll be adding Mario Kart 8 Deluxe soon and eventually Mario, plus Zelda is just fucking incredible.

I have 0 knowledge of Xbone.

u/RayCharlizard · 5 pointsr/PS4

Country? $300 USD is the MSRP for that so it's not really a "deal". A better deal would be to get a 500GB bundle with Uncharted 4 and external HDD for expanded storage.

PS4 Slim 500GB w/ Uncharted 4 ($257.99) + Seagate Expansion 1TB ($54.99)
= $312.98, or 500GB (before formatting) more storage and Uncharted 4 for an extra $13.

First, price match to Amazon or Walmart [$249 currently] and then use your Target RedCard (TRC) to receive a special 15% off offer from target.

I may be misinterpreting what you're saying, but the PS4 isn't anywhere near $400 anymore. It's $267 on Amazon with a game bundled. Only the Pro is $399

>Finally decided to buy a used PS4, looking on craigslist.

How much is it? $250? $200?

[Amazon warehouse] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B01LRLJV28/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used&m=A2L77EE7U53NWQ) is selling a used Uncharted 4 Bundle (PS4 slim + controller + UC4) for $211.62 just so you know.

I don't know much about other stuff, but this is a good option with a free game.

u/LittleByrdEee1 · 3 pointsr/PS4

Leaves out this current deal. PS4 Slim & Uncharted 4 $212 or $246 w/ extra controller. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LRLJV28/ref=twister_B00Z9TLGOG?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

u/mtlyoshi9 · 3 pointsr/PS4

First of all, you don't need PS+ or extra controllers to play this single player game.

Thus to "just play this one game" (his words) it would cost $250 for the PS4 (and that includes Uncharted 4 bundled in!) + $60 for HZD, for a total of $310 + tax. Not exactly $600.

I suppose this assumes he has a screen to play it on and a house/electricity to power it (which he should, given that he's said he plays PC games with his wife).

What!? What country are you in? A couple of things. The original Playstation is just fine. You can get a new 500GB PS4 slim of $250 from Amazon with a game.

I would cancel the order altogether and locate a more reputable retailer, because as far as I am concerned they are out and out lying to you.

Are firmwares not known by serial or other numbers on the co sole at this time?

I. The past I remember it being possible to tell when the console was produced>what firmware it had by serial.

Edit: nevermind, it seems manufacture date is located on the ps4 box, and I’ve found a partial list of mfg date and firmware version.

Here is the incomplete list

mostly start dates. with no end dates, but im fairly certain the mfg date on any new box will be enough to determine firmware, unless it is a newer bundle/ps4 slim that is still in production.

i live in a fairly large city, and all stores have many older bundles. they are also available online.

i found the uncharted bundle in the link above for 340, which seems reasonable to me.

obviously a used unit or unit you can test is best. personally ill take my chances on the mfg date ob the box when i buy eventually. (totally broke for a bit).

*hereis the uncharted 500gb slim model. 5 dollars less than a 1tb with uncharted included. NOTE: this is an affiliate link from the above listed site! If you wish, please search it out on your own as to not give $$ to the above site if you so wish. I have no connection with them and this is a disclaimer.

There are pro models with firmware starting at 4.05-4.07, but it will be harder to determine pro firmware from the date, unless you search for more Info, which I’m sure is easily doable.

If anyone buys a ps4 pro, let an active forum list know what firmware it has!

u/Akikaze25 · 2 pointsr/RandomActsOfGaming

Ok, sure, let's give it a try, nothing to lose, just the tiniest chance to win, but it's something :)

I guess I would be ok with a Playstation 4, did not own a console in almost a decade and this one actually has games I would care about. Here is one. Would have gone for a PS4 pro, but I think that one releases sometime during the middle of November.

Thanks for making someone very happy. Also, congrats on your profit.

u/jaggedspoon · 2 pointsr/gaming

From the PS4 I think he wanted one of the newer Kingdom Hearts games. This or this. Also you just look up Arduino or rasperry pi kits and there's usually some game kind of deal.
Also here's some PS4 stuff. 1 or 2. If you do two check the sellers for best ratings and stuff. But 1 seems the way to go because of the game. Also if you do just end up getting him a PS4 no game get the kid kingdom hearts remaster (not the 2.8).
But if you go aruino go with this and this and this. Those three are cheaper than the PS4 and he'll learn more.
Also all this is from the perspective of a guy who's had to buy his own games and stuff.

u/signofthenine · 2 pointsr/PS4

Before we get into this, a lot of your questions are frequently asked and can be found with search. I don't say this to be mean, but that you'll probably find a lot more replies there than you might get in this one thread.

>Pro vs Slim vs Standard

Standard is retired. Slim replaced it. Same hardware. Pro is will do 4K with checkerboard rendering, which is a semi cheat but still looks great. Pro should also hopefully allow devs to hit 60fps more often in SP @ 1080, but the jurys still out. More on framerate in a bit.

>New vs Used.

I'm a fan of new, but if you can get gamestop of the like to give you some sort of warranty, that's up to you.

>I'm not a massive graphics enthusiast

This could be your easiest hangup. While some stuff can be 60, a lot of stuff ends up at 30FPS. That's unfortunate, but it's reality. If that's a huge problem, you might want to reconsider.

>When to buy

You missed the black friday stuff, but I think I've heard of the slim for $249? Here's an example: https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Slim-500GB-Console-Uncharted-Bundle/dp/B01LRLJV28

>I'm going to be playing on my computer monitor via HDMI, because I don't have a working TV

PS4 controller has an audio jack for headphones. Or you can get sony or other headsets for the ps4 (golds are good). HDMI for video is great.

As someone who gamed on the pc for decades, I love my ps4 for exclusives as well as it's "pickup and go" gaming. I hardly game on the pc since the ps4 came out, I love it that much. It's not for everyone, but I've had a very positive experience.

Sounds like you guys have been through a lot together! It's such a great feeling having a partner in life, no matter what the situation is. You'll always have somebody going through the same things as you so you're never truely alone!

They just re-released the first 3 Crash games on PS4 with upgraded graphics. Also here's a graphics comparison of the games.

And this is the best PS4 deal/bundle at this time, but since we're so close to the holidays, I highly recommend that you wait for the Black Friday deals.

Hey man, fellow PC gamer (For over a decade) and I just jumped into owning a PS4 about two weekends ago. I'm not looking for super amazing graphics, but rather games I have been missing out on. So I know how you feel. I've been vegging out on Destiny and I'm having so much fun.

> Pro vs Slim vs Standard. From what I understand via a quick Googling, the Pro's main advantage is 4K support (irrelevant to me) but the framerate isn't that much better and doesn't even apply to some games (true/false?); the Slim is the cheapest option; the Standard is... I don't know. Does standard have any advantage over slim?

Nothing is different from the OG PS4 and the Slim. The Slim is just smaller from what I understand. The Slim does come with the updated Dualshock 4 though. I owned a DS4 for my PC before and the updated DS4 has a light bar on the touchpad and the analog sticks are noticeably clickier when you push them in.

> New vs Used. I know it's going to vary widely by where I get it, but how "safe" is it to get a used PS4? This is assuming that there isn't a bundle with a game that I want, in which case I'd go with that.

I'm more on the side of getting a new system because I prefer new things anyway. I think the only thing you'll run into is wear and tear on the blu-ray drive and the hard drive. The hard drive is easy to replace though and it'll take any 2.5" HDD and even SDDs.

> I'm not a massive graphics enthusiast, but being on PC for so long with a somewhat-above-average rig, I notice low framerate. I don't care so much about, say, 50fps vs 60fps, but I notice 30fps or below and it makes me enjoy the game less. I know it varies based on the game, but overall how are framerates for PS4 games?

Framerates are definitely lower. I never disliked 30 FPS, but it does have that sluggish look to it. That being said, I could honestly care less. Before I owned my 970, I would sometimes lock my framerate to 30 FPS to keep it from feeling jittery from the frame drops. I never really cared about the whole 30 < 60 FPS argument, but 60 FPS is definitely better overall. It's a matter of preference. Now if a game drops below 30, it's really noticeable and there are a few games that do drop from what I understand. Digital Foundry is something I've always watched even before owning a PS4 just because I love seeing framerate differences between platforms. I will say this though: The Uncharted Collection feels and looks so nice at 60 FPS.

> When to buy. I probably missed out on stuff during black friday/cyber monday, but is there anything on the horizon (other than Christmas sales) that I should wait for? Any new bundles or special deals coming soon?

I got a Slim with Uncharted 4 for $269 (On Amazon) two weekends ago and I had it price matched at Best Buy. Amazon currently has it for $249 (The same model I got) right now and it can still be price matched at Best Buy if you want to pick it up locally. Not a bad price if you ask me.

> I'm going to be playing on my computer monitor via HDMI, because I don't have a working TV (all its ports got fried by lightning and so my TV is only good for watching cable - in other words, useless). This setup works fine for my WiiU, I assume it'll be fine for PS4 as well?

If it has HDMI, it will work! Only thing I can think of that can cause problems is HDCP content being restricted, but I don't know what your monitor is and I doubt it will ever be an issue. On another note, my Corsair Void Wireless RGB headset works on the PS4 as well. So if you have a "gaming" headset on your PC, there's a huge chance it will work on your PS4 if it's USB based.

Hope I helped man. I'm really enjoying my PS4 and I'm probably going to buy Stardew Valley for the third time tomorrow (Steam, GoG, and now PSN) lol. It's weird that I haven't touched my PC in a few weeks or finished Pokemon Moon either, but I've been wasting my time away with Destiny. I've been wanting to play it for years and I'm enjoying it so much right now.

u/atomiku121 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

So I went into this, and read the article, thinking "hey, but PC has a truly massive Indie scene. Surely, the reason PC is so much higher than the other three combined is because it had so many more games reviewed, right?"

Nope, on PS4/XBone/WiiU there were 783 games reviewed, 20 of which were classified as "good exclusives" with a score of 75 or higher. PC had 450 games reviewed and had 46 games classified as "good exclusives."

If we're rounding, just 3% of games released on console this year became "good exclusives" and 10% of games on PC became good exclusives. I'd say this is another feather in our cap, brothers.

When someone says "PC has no good exclusives" we can say definitively, with evidence, that ~10% of PC games reviewed are considered "good exclusives" whereas just 3% of Console games reviewed (and for this to be relevant you'd have to own all 3 consoles) are considered "good exclusives."

To tack onto what I said earlier, for this comparison, where PC absolutely smashes consoles, you'd have to own all three consoles, PS4, XBone, and WiiU concurrently to be able to take advantage of those 20 games that are "good exclusives." PS4 Slim + Xbox One + Wii U = $800 spent. For $800 you could get a pretty bitchin' computer that would outperform the consoles easily, and you might be able to get a VR capable PC with Oculus' new min spec being the 1050 Ti/960 and an i3.

"PC gaming is dead" I say PC gaming is stronger than ever, and this just proves it. Unless we're in some kind of bubble that no one in the industry is seeing, it's not going anywhere any time soon.

For couch gaming?

Console in my opinion.

Over the last 2 years, I played with my girlfriend on the PS4:

  • Diablo 3

  • Rayman Legends

  • Helldivers

  • Borderlands 2

  • Resident Evil 5

  • Towerfall

  • Trine

  • Little Big Planet 3

  • Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare

  • Lego Games

  • Resogun

  • Rocket League

If you are looking for quick gaming fun and not 4K 60FPS Modded Masterrace gameplay, a PS4 is such an easy cheap option.

Costs 250$ new and a TV costs ~200-300$.

That's about as much as you would spend on only a PC in the first place, maybe even less.

u/MisterMangu · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch
  1. Yes we do. Did you see Skyrim? That's not the remastered version, wanna take a guess why that is?
  2. PS4 and XB1 constantly go on sale for 250, and right now you can get it for 260 on amazon. With a game. Switch comes with no games bundled. https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Slim-500GB-Console-Uncharted-Bundle/dp/B01LRLJV28/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1484286542&sr=8-1&keywords=PS4
  3. Yes, but they were the strongest/most capable home consoles on the market at the time. The Switch is not, aside it's portable aspect, it has nothing grand to offer for that price. They single handedly alienated both their home console and handheld market.
  4. Yes, 3rd party shovelware. They showed nothing in this presentation to prove me otherwise, because they would be showing the most anticipated releases of 2017, not..this.
  5. Yes, hyperbole on my part but their launch line up is not good. It's just a bunch of mini type games and simple couch co op games. Zelda was the only game showed that people actually..you know..want. Mario is in the holidays and splatoon 2 is in spring.

Cmon now, stop trying to defend this shit.
u/xonjas · 1 pointr/gaming

Console is more expensive too.

270 for the ps4 and 135 for the extra controllers means 405 for the 4 player multiplayer experience.

The switch is 300, the grips are 30, the joycon sets are 80, the pro controller is 70. The setup in the picture (assuming only 1 switch) is 300 + (80 + 30)*2 + 70 for a total of 590. It would 'only' be 510 if everyone but player 1 was using a pro controller.

u/mizike · 1 pointr/funny

>Do you have anything to prove that a PC is more expensive in all the cases compared to a console?

Look, I get that PC's are superior to consoles in many ways but they don't win on price and the fact that PC gamers can't admit that is why you guys get made fun of so much.

But here, let's do a simple comparison.

Here's a PS4. It comes with an input device, one AAA game, and costs $268. This is literally the first link on amazon so it's not like I had to do any digging to find this price.

Kindly provide a link to a PC that comes with an input device, an OS, and a AAA game that runs at a comparable resolution.

Your math doesn't quite add up there buddy but sure, keep pulling numbers out of your ass.

29 years old, working in IT since 7 years now.

Still doesn't change the fact that a PS4 is cheaper, and I don't really know what my age has to do with anything.

PS4 for 260$

Gaming PC for 1180$

Sure, you can also build yourself a potato PC for 400$, but that won't even play Witcher 3 and won't last you longer than a year before you have to upgrade.

u/Diablosword · 0 pointsr/witcher

Yeah you can get a new PS4 for $259 with a great game included. Aside from GPU shortage, you point out that PCs have uses other than gaming, but so do consoles. They're simple, multi-purpose, media centers, and much much user friendly. I have a gaming PC and a PS4, but I use the PS4 more because it's just more convenient for most things. If you're going to game casually, just get a console. A $250 PC may perform on par, but for most people it's just not worth it. If you want a gaming PC, spend more than $250.

u/ImNotATexan · 0 pointsr/gaming

No it isn't. A brand new PS3 is literally 5 dollars cheaper than a new PS4. No one is letting a used PS4 go for $150 unless they're desperate, which isn't the norm.

PS3: https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-3-500-GB-System/dp/B009DL2TBA/ref=lp_14210711_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1498080279&sr=1-1

And seriously don't act like PS4 was $250 when it was new. They cut the price in half within less than 3.5 years, that's horrible as far as a loss goes for Sony. Both consoles were $500 new. You could build a better PC in 2013 for $500, and you can build a better PC now for $250, as well as $500.

Furthermore, stop acting like these consoles are sold at the price paid for the components. They aren't. The alleged cost to build an Xbox One was $471, which is total bullshit. If true, it means the components in these consoles are total trash or were supplied at a massive discount. A more accurate comparison would be "Build a comparable PC for $800 - $1000 and then just cut that price in half".

I just easily threw together an AMD system with better parts for $430, hell I could swap out the RX560 for a 1060 and it would still be under $500.
