UPDATE: SUCCESS!! PRICE IS NOW $34.99 AT AMAZON! Thanks everyone! Amazon's Preorder Price Guarantee says our orders should be updated to reflect the cheaper price automatically within 24 hours.
__

Best Buy just dropped their Portal 2 PC/Mac price to $34.99.

PS3 is $44.99 and Xbox 360 is $44.99 also.

Amazon loves to have the lowest prices, so visit Amazon's Portal 2 page and click Tell us about a lower price and there's a good chance we'll all save $10 more!

(Amazon says "Found a lower price? Let us know. Although we can't match every price reported, we'll use your feedback to ensure that our prices remain competitive.")

>Is Portal 2 seriously going to be that expensive?

PC version will be $50, console version $60. (Those are the pre-order prices listed by retailers like Amazon, Gamestop, etc.) I'm sure that, as per usual, Valve will be offering a 10% discount to those who pre-order on Steam, and they might also offer a 4-pack (three copies for the price of four) like they did with the Left 4 Dead games.

>Has Valve ever made a game more than $30?

Half-Life 2 was $50 when it came out in 2004. Left 4 Dead was $50 when it was released in 2008, and Left 4 Dead 2 was $50 when it was released in 2009. Adjusted for inflation, Portal 2 is actually cheaper than Half-Life 2. ($50 in 2004 = $56.32 in 2010 according to the Consumer Price Index.)

My brother and I waited until Portal 2 dropped below $10. We then got a combo pack and applied a coupon to it and ended up spending about $5 a copy.

I say we did well

If you have a capable PC, STEAM is always having sales. You can buy Portal right now for 9.99.

On Valentine's Day you could have gotten Portal and Portal 2 for a special price I believe and Amazon.com has a sale on Portal 2 for 34.99.

Actually, I would highly recommend you buy ONE physical copy of a Steamworks game, for example, Skyrim.

If you don't know what a Steamworks game is, it's a system Steam implemented that reassures you that no matter where you buy the game, it'll have a Steam key attached to it. All retail copies of Steamworks games(except a very few) come with a Steam key.

The reason I suggest buying a physical Steamworks game is because if your account ever gets stolen, hacked, etc. you can take a picture of your physical CD key with your email address written on a piece of paper next to it and send it to Steam support and they'll know you are the rightful owner of the account. This is one of the few things that make Steam support know you're the real owner of the account and things will get done A LOT faster.

You only need one game though, Portal 2 is another example. Here is the complete list of games that use Steamworks, you can see if it has a retail version on the right side.

Of course this is only if you are going to be using Steam. You can also buy games from Origin(EA games mostly), GreenManGaming(usually gives you a Steam key 99% of the time), GoodOldGames(DRM free games, usually older titles from the 90's) and the HumbleIndieBundle(DRM free and sometimes gives you Steam keys if you spend over $1).

Wait, what, two copies of Portal 2 for $90?? Aren't they selling for like $35 on Amazon?

Correction, $44.99 on Amazon

So, steam is basically useless here.

Why did you get the PS3 version when there's a PC box set as well.

We should send in links to Amazon to get them to lower prices as well.

I can't seem to post the link to the "report price", but if you click here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002I0JIQW/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER#

scroll down and link to the price. :)

Dishonored. Absolutely amazing game-- the story of a man who was wrongly accused of the murder of the woman he was ordered to protect (and possibly loved), the Empress. He escapes with the help of some unknown benefactors and begins his quest for vengeance against the ones who wronged him, and the recovery of the Empress's daughter Emily so she can regain the throne. Along the way he is noticed by The Outsider, a non-aligned ethereal being akin to the G-Man from the Half-Life series, and is given supernatural powers to aid him.

You'll have different results depending on whether you play High Chaos (killing guards, being spotted) or Low Chaos (stealthy, knocking people unconscious instead of killing them.) Emily will either see you as an unofficial father figure or a terrifying nightmare of a man. Your companions will react to your choices as well, seeing you as a cold-blooded killer or a man who simply does what has to be done in the most ethical way possible. This mechanic is similar to the "Clem-and-Lee vs. the actions of the group" found in Telltale's The Walking Dead.

All in all, a severely underrated game. I recommend it if you like your stealth games with a dash of ethics.

I would go buy Amazon since they're shipping the game and have an exact date.

If you are thinking PC, you can't not buy it from Amazon

$35 ftmfw

u/hypermog · 1 pointr/gaming

Get the PC version for $35 bucks

u/ips1023 · 1 pointr/Portal

Why didn't you get this one?

http://www.amazon.com/Portal-2-Pc/dp/B002I0JIQW/ref=pd_cp_vg_3_img

and if you get the ps3 version, can you also get to play it on pc and ps3 and have 2 game copies?

u/tevoul · 1 pointr/gaming

FYI, not sure if you already found someone to pair up with but amazon has Portal 2 for $35 and $1 for release-day shipping. That's what I ended up doing - $10 cheaper than on Steam and $5 cheaper than a 2-person bundle.

u/Soodey · 1 pointr/pcgaming

Link to the PC copy of Portal 2. OP, you have the PS3 version in your submission.

And yes, this is the PC version of Portal 2

u/Hedgeclipper · 1 pointr/gaming

Success!
Edit: This was accidentally a referral, should be fixed now, not that it matters anymore :/

Try Amazon, http://www.amazon.com/Portal-2-Pc/dp/B002I0JIQW/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1303095795&sr=8-3

No $10 gift card, but a $20 gift card if you go with the PS3 version (comes with PC cd key) and it's $54

u/litewo · -3 pointsr/gamingnews

Here's a link to the PC version sans referral codes.
