Powerhouse: The Untold Story of Hollywood's Creative Artists Agency by James Andrew Miller.
James Andrew Miller previously composed oral histories of ESPN (Those Guys Have All The Fun) and Saturday Night Live (Live From New York), oral histories being collections of quotes and interviews from those involved, and CAA growing from a group of 5 disgruntled William Morris agents, to the multi billion dollar enterprise it is today, with it's fingers in everything from sports, literature, movies, television and advertising.
I enjoy Andrew James Miller's previous books, and was looking forward to this for a while. Honestly reading through the first 5 years this past weekend has been wonderful for me on a personal level, and has really allowed me to clear my thoughts regarding some issues I'm having at work. I'm currently frustrated with some processes and market inefficiencies, and lack of communication channels at work, and those were some of the major issues the founding members of CAA had with William Morris, so there has been a lot I've been able to connect to, but it is interesting hearing stories about how the early days of the shop was run.
