Other movie books he may enjoy:

Joe Bob Briggs, "Profoundly Disturbing: Shocking Movies That Changed History", popular 90s cable TV host and drive-in movie champion Joe Bob Briggs lays out the context and history of 20 films that changed the pop culture landscape, from Texas Chainsaw to Deep Throat.

The Psychotronic Encyclopedia of Film, a gigantic A-to-Z guide to hundreds of bad movies, weird movies, basically all of the kind that have been on MST3K. Great book to flip through.

Nathan Rabin, "My Year of Flops", one of the head writers at the AV Club put out this collection of critical essays of infamous and noteworthy Hollywood bombs.

I ran across this at my library and it was pretty good. What I liked most about it was a glossary of genres and a list of films attributed to them. It had the most bizarre combinations.

Just stumbled across this while looking for the above and it sounds pretty good too.

I think this may not be quite what you're looking for, but I've had a copy of the Psychotronic Encylopedia of Film on my coffee table for about 20 years. It's not exactly the large-format, image-heavy kind of book I feel like you're thinking of, but I'll be damned if I don't open it once or twice a day just to read about a B-movie at random, or to look up an obscure actor or character. I prefer the first volume, but the second one is good too.

But I'm also looking forward to other responses.
