When I used that joystick, I ended up ignoring all the base stuff (including the throttle) and keeping my left hand on the keyboard. I'd use W and S for throttle control. There's many more buttons available that way. Something to consider. A pad such as a Razer Orbweaver (which is on sale right now https://www.amazon.com/Razer-Orbweaver-Chroma-Mechanical-Adjustable/dp/B013P0HW7K) would be a good left-hand choice too.

Though personally, switching my 3D Pro for a Saitek x52 Pro was the best move I've made for the game.

Anyway, if you want to set this up again, I'd just customize your controls from this image then you can send your bindings file to your friend.

u/medullah · 7 pointsr/swtor

Nothing makes it illegal, but it will severely limit your play unless you're just doing very casual game play. There's quite a few threads discussing controllers so I'd read through them.

For easier use, you can also consider a keypad like this Razer one. It's pricey but if you look at similar items, you can see some alternatives.

u/EnsoZero · 6 pointsr/battlestations

That one you listed was an older model that is no longer in production. Here are the two major models that Razer is producing right now:

Orbweaver (mechanical switches) Tartarus (membrane)

u/MidnightPagan · 5 pointsr/Warframe

Hey bud, I know its expensive but check these out.

You can customize the buttons any way you want!

I have 1-4 bound to the directional thumb stick so its just a flick of my thumb (which my thumb only has partial movement anyway - a pellet stove got one good lick in on me when we were fighting)

I really can't imagine gaming without my Tartarus anymore. Even if I had full use of my hand.

There is a PC peripheral that allows thumbstick usage on left hand and mouse on right. Cammy uses one iirc and so did Changed. Looks pretty cool.

I can't say for sure, but I'd guess it'd have minor conflicts like the HUD switching between control types every time you do anything. It'd be clunky, that's for certain.

I was actually in the same boat as you when I switched from console 3 years ago. Played console my whole life, then I built a PC about a week before Siege came out. Never followed the game before but got it free with my graphics card at the time. Ended up buying a Razer Orbweaver keypad because I just really dislike WASD movement. I've been using it every day since then, have put tons of time in the game and honestly it's so good that I've convinced my friend to also switch to it.

The Razer Orbweaver doesn't have an analogue stick so I can't vouch for the support, but I can tell you that the ease-of-setup with a 4-way stick like the Orbweaver is convenient and it still gives that "controller"-y feeling. What helps is that there's a hold-to-walk keybind for Siege, so analogue isn't necessary.

The main benefit for using a keypad in Siege is that you can free up your pointer and ring fingers to use for leaning, so you can lean and move in different directions freely.

It takes about a week or two to get fully used to the keypad but once you get it, there's no going back. I 100% recommend it, and if you do get it, you should let me know so I can recommend my keybinds as a starting point. I'm so used to it that I even use it for most other games, except any MMO or any game where full keyboard is more convenient.

A word of warning though: Razer quality control sucks garbage doodoo, I've burned through at least 3 Orbweavers and like 5 of a different Razer keypad model (but I stopped using those after I realized how badly made they were).

If you want to see some of my gameplay using it, I can link my YouTube, but I won't unless you ask because I'm not a self-promoting dweeb, I just upload for funsies.

Anyway, sorry I couldn't answer your original question but I hope I helped a bit because I had spent a good month or so deciding between the Logitech and the Razer keypad.

u/SEND_ME_ALT_FACTS · 3 pointsr/apexlegends

I play controller on pc and I've been thinking of making the jump with something like this. Having the thumbstick for movement may help since wasd movement is hard for me to nail down. I will miss shooting with a trigger though. Pulling a trigger wand feeling the rumble is so much more satisfying than clicking a mouse.

That's a gaming keypad, your wrist rests on it and you have access to all the keys you need. It has adjustable hand/thumb/palm rests and 30 keys + 3 modes giving you 90 fully programmable key combinations out of the box. You can add more profiles in the software.

Orbweaver Chroma! Honestly, I like it but I really want the Tartarus V2 instead. It’s kind of bulky, but that might just be me because I have really small hands lol

u/branmuffin17 · 2 pointsr/Smite

Here's what I do...I play on PC...don't play on console at all, but, if you're open to trying and have the $$$ to spare, I really, really love this.

I use a gamepad. I've used the Logitech G13 though I now use the Razer Orbweaver. Both work. With this, I set up movement to the thumb stick/pad...you can only move in one direction at a time, so if you only have to use one finger (thumb) to move, it's more efficient, right? I then assign the keypad buttons to abilities, ability leveling, and relic use (among other things...I assign keys based on where the left hand would sit on a traditional keyboard to make VGS functions easier).

Means I can move while using abilities...never understood why people would just settle for using # keys for abilities, which means you can't move in some directions at the same time.

As for the mouse, any should be fine, but since the keypad is limited in # of buttons, I currently use a Razer Naga Epic. I use left and right scroll wheel clicks for my consumables, and the thumb buttons as right-side keyboard buttons. Of course, you can program however you'd like.

This setup is also awesome for FPS and other games. It definitely takes a while to get used to it, but now it's second nature to me, and totally worth it.

The nice things about these is the dedicated joystick to your thumb. I personally have had the Orbweaver for 5 years and it works great.

Be warned that I've heard razer is not the best of qualities out there but we are kind of limited on game pad manufacturers. Are these something you were looking for? Or am I heading in the wrong direction?

u/asyrin25 · 2 pointsr/3DS

I don't use a keyboard, I use a mechanical orbweaver when I'm not using a controller for PC gaming so the additional buttons come in handy.

Console gaming is pretty cheap though even with the console itself, so I don't really feel the need to wait for an emulator. :)

u/ThaneofJudgement · 2 pointsr/classicwow

Its never too late. I picked up a Razer Orbweaver a couple of weeks into Classic and haven't looked back. There was a few days of retraining/slowness but now I am faster than ever. Controlling all of my movement with just my thumb and freeing up 4 fingers for just spells has been amazing!

Razer OrbWeaver and the Razer Nostromo have plenty of buttons, cursor control, and a scroll wheel. Plus they're left handed. You'll have to re learn your mouse control on a joy stick however.

Edit: Orbweaver does not have scroll wheel if you get the mechanical variant

Orbweaver is a mini keyboard. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B013P0HW7K

It has 30 programmable keys, plus a four-day thumb stick and two thumb buttons. I prefer it to a full keyboard because I can easily move my hand from the throttle to the Orbweaver without having to fumble for the right position.

This is the new version of one that I have. There are other versions. I got my current one at Best Buy like 7 years ago for 50 bucks; still going strong. It helps a lot especially since it has a thumb stick for movements so you don’t keyboard turn. I love my healing set up but sometimes when I dps I can feel a little discomfort but that’s more on my injury than the gamepad

Which model do you have? 2016 and beyond or one of the older ones?

If you have a newer one, a gaming keypad is a nice luxury. The keys on them are much nicer than the butterfly switches, super easy to customize, etc. Some examples include the Razer Orbweaver and Razer Tarturus v2.

Missed an unknown headset hiding behind one of the speakers near the lamp. And it looks like one of those gaming keypads like an Orbweaver to the left of the flightstick. Those together may be 80-300 bucks.

u/UnicornPumaShark · 2 pointsr/xboxone

You can use something like this with the XIM 4/Apex: https://www.amazon.com/Razer-Orbweaver-Chroma-Mechanical-Adjustable/dp/B013P0HW7K

I often bring up handicapped / disabled people and alternative input devices into this discussion but get downvoted to oblivion because most of the people here lack perspective. You can use your Razer Naga with the XIM just fine. Just get a proper mouse-pad to account for any DPI differences...

u/jason-jarrus · 2 pointsr/wow

I recommend a game pad.
https://www.amazon.com/RAZER-ORBWEAVER-CHROMA-Progammable-Adjustable/dp/B013P0HW7K/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=gamepad+pc&qid=1562156777&s=gateway&sprefix=game+pad&sr=8-3

I wouldnt play the game without it. I bind one key to shift, one to alt, and one to tab. The rest are 1 through =. This gives you 36 quick key binds and a thumb stick. Everything is always in reach.

I use bartender and shape the bars to be 4x3 so they coincide with the shape of the game pad. Everything is at a glance.

It takes a week or so to get used to, but it’s easy on your hands and it makes wow amazing.

Good luck!

You may also want to look into left handed controllers like this

If you're comfortable with MnK, I'd say stick with it. Currently, aiming with a stick can be tricky without a good controller and a lot of practice. Mouse is much more accessible. I'd try that for a bit and if it feels unfun, look into getting a flight stick.

You may want to find a mouse with a decent number of buttons to take some of the burden off of the keyboard hand. I use a Logitech G700 which for me has a nice number of easily accessible buttons without having too many to differentiate between them in the heat of battle. It also spreads them out between the index and thumb, something you don't see with many mice which tend to leave it at the left button, scroll wheel, and maybe an extra button. It can be wired or wireless, whenever you need. About 60 bucks.

https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-G700s-910-003584-Rechargeable-Gaming/dp/B00BFOEY3Y

You could also try a good throttle to give a little immersion. Just get one with a decent number of buttons as SC has many functions. I can't direct you to a good one here as I don't have a throttle.

Another possibility is a Nostromo style keypad. I've used one for years now back from when Belkin made their first iteration of it. Razer currently has the rights, which is unfortunate, but I am liking my new Orbweaver so far. The palm rest greatly helps with extended gameplay for us old dudes and the Orbweaver has decent adjustability to where it and the thumb assembly sits. Completely programmable for single buttons or macros, I've found them indispensable for long game sessions. Orbweaver is about 130 currently.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013P0HW7K/ref=s9_acsd_hps_bw_c_x_6

There's also a program for tablets and smartphones where you can assign game functions to a UI. I haven't looked into that yet, but it could be a pretty nice little addon if you already have some form of tablet device.

They look comfy since you have all the keys within reach and have some support.

I considered getting one (not necessarily than one) but I probably don't game enough to justify it.

A gaming keypad? If you mean a keyboard, /r/MechanicalKeyboards has a ton of reccomendations depending on preferences. If you're looking for a straight keypad, the closest thing with mech switches I found was the Razer Orbweaver Chroma at $130.

u/Riadnasla · 1 pointr/editors

Thanks! Looking at your pics, looks like you've definitely spent the time refining your workspace.

A couple quick questions:

  1. How essential would you say a transport control is? On my controller I bound the triggers to J/L, the start button to Space, and the D-Pad to Arrow Keys. Felt just a little clunky, but not sure how much smoother it could be?

  2. Obviously you enjoy your wacom, and owning one myself....any recommendations for integrating it into a setup? (PEBKAC or otherwise)

  3. When you're saying "powered sliders", do you mean they physically move when they change in the software?

The AAC is quite out of my current budget, but I'd like to strap together some cheaper gear to emulate what it does. I've seen some industry editors using stuff like the G13 or the Orbweaver as a sort of "power keyboard" for their most used shortcuts, with a wacom or mouse in the other hand.

    [edit: extra question]
u/Integrals · 1 pointr/starcitizen

You link and old version sold by a 3rd party as am example for price? Give me a freaking break.

The g13 isn't nearly as comfortable and has very mushy buttons when compared to an Orbweaver. Not to me to mention the Orbweaver is full RGB back lit.

These pads are awesome and well worth the 60$ higher sell price over a g13. So freaking comfortable and more buttons that are easily accessible around your left hand. I'll take (8+5)more buttons over an analog stick any day.

As far as the LCD screen. Are you seriously going to take your eyes off the screen to glance down at some stats. All useful information will be shown ON your HUD.

That being said, if you REALLY wants this feature, there are apps for your phone which loom 100x better.

You need to chill out, you are acting like these pads murdered someone you cared about.

u/Dragoniel · 1 pointr/EliteDangerous

Yeah, I am thinking that way as well. Gonna go for dual sticks, however. The way I figure - throttle is the same as an additional stick, just gives you one less axis. I figure I can use the left stick as a throttle in a pinch.

Besides, dual stick setup should work amazingly well for flying helicopters, which I adore. I've spent a thousand hours in GTA5 flying those things, just because of how awesomely it is implemented there. I expect to stick with helicopters in the future and that setup should work nicely.

I have also already ordered an Orbweaver, – I am planning on mounting that instead of the left joystick when not using it (gonna attach everything with VELCRO strips, so I don't have to mess around with bolts). It should work for everything not needing a second stick.

u/treize_k · 1 pointr/yuzu

Maybe you could use some kind of mixed input like: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B013P0HW7K?linkCode=gs2&tag=gt5na01-20

That way you could have 8 directional movement and still use the mouse for camera control? Sheesh it would be an investment if you have played those games for 600 hours, that's like 26 cents CAD per hour of usage so far.

Razer makes something like that that has keys for switching weapons as well. [Here] (https://www.amazon.com/Razer-Orbweaver-Chroma-Mechanical-Adjustable/dp/B013P0HW7K?th=1) its kinda expensive but if the stick position is comfortable enough it could be good

u/msherretz · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

This is the mechanical version. There's a previous gen (still mech switches) that wasn't RGB. You may have luck finding it on eBay.

u/I-Seek-To-Understand · 1 pointr/gaming

I like it. it requires a lot of tampering to get it optimized and sometimes I cringe at the thought and thus dont use it.

But once configured it can be real nice. I do wish it had an additional row on the top. The stick sucks as a mouse, so best to assign it other uses that don't require clutch use. the keys lined up like that is a definite plus. Straight rows makes for less mistakes in the thick of things.

Razer Orbweaver Chroma is a version that uses mechanical keys. If I had to do over again, I think I might dish out the extra money for that one.

Basically the same, but with the extra row above and what I think looks like a more natural placement for the thumb and access to those buttons. The G13 forces you to choose the bottom row or the thumb area to be effective, making some keys far harder to use in a clutch.

u/Laron_ · 1 pointr/DestinyTheGame

Even better, something like a stromo , which is a one handed keypad, the one I tried out had a joystick for the thumb. While awkward to me, I could see how you could get used to it.

For games like Destiny, with lots of aim assist for controllers, this could work well.

Does anybody know if, while setting up your keybinds in FFXIV, you're able to assign unique keys to things?

For example, regarding the Logitech G13, would FFXIV recognize the "G9" key on the keypad as its own key or would I have to map G9 to another key on my keyboard in order to use it?

The most commonly typed word in english; “THE”, can be typed in an instant by overlapping the “H” and “E” keys with the index finger and simultaneously pressing the right and index fingers in one motion.

(I find I get near 100% accuracy when overlapping the “T” and “H” keys with the ring finger as well)

    See!

The most common letters E, T, A and O are laid out under the fingers assuming the user is placing them in the classic SHIFT-WASD position. An the less used letters are under the second (Blue) keymap.

Different finger zones are shown by the different colors.

Every key on a regular keyboard is laid out here with the exception of the arguably useless PRTSCN, SCRLK and PAUSE keys.

Potentially the biggest problem would be the camera controls/movement with only one hand. I am constantly using the WASD keys and mouse simultaneously as well as the T key for the more advanced camera controls. The other shortcuts could be mapped relatively easily to a gaming mouse. Perhaps even something like this could work well... Granted, it's an investment but I am fairly sure this could be a 1 handed solution.

I'm using these devices to do it as well so it's not exactly the same as what I'm describing in the first place but it's much easier to explain with the keyboard.

That may be my new go to as a low sensitivity gamer with a small desk. I originally was planning on getting something like the Razer Orbweaver (https://www.amazon.com/Razer-Orbweaver-Chroma-Mechanical-Adjustable/dp/B013P0HW7K/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1525046627&sr=1-1&keywords=razer+gamepad). Thanks I guess.

Civ and most strategy games are great and really only require mouse. Management/simulation games like prison architect would also work great. You could also get him one of these.

When I was getting into it I got one of these bad boys, back before Razer bought them it was owned by Belkin:

Logitech also makes one, and I find them super nice for WoW personally.

The above mouse with the mmo numberpad on it and the below game pad are what got me used to keyboard gaming. It was overwhelming at times and this combination helped with that. You’ll want to go and set up your buttons on them how you feel comfortable, however now that I use these I prefer for every game except driving games lol.

You can also get cheaper versions of both of these from other brands, I just linked you what I bought because I love my setup.

Edit- for the sweat crumbs etc. I just clean my board like once a week with a iso wipe and dust can. Once a week may be overkill, but it’s a decent way to keep it all clean.

Have you tried those "gaming" keypads?

Something like this maybe: https://www.amazon.com/RAZER-Tartarus-Progammable-Detachable-Mecha-Membrane/dp/B013P0HW7K/

Curious if you think that would be good.
