Honestly the elite is overpriced in my opinion, go for an off brand one that does the same thing like scuf or Razer.

What is your budget? Razer has some very good xb1 controllers, the wildcat for example. They are expensive but have mechanical buttons and dpad. The wildcat is wireless and the new one (can't remember the name right now) is wired

Edit: got both of them right here

I have owned both the Elite and the Razer Wildcat. They both have a pros, maybe some cons depending on your perspective. Personally I really enjoy my Razer. Customer service is is great. Which leads me to my warning of Microsoft, the controllers warranty is 3 months and a quick Google search will lead you to horror stories.

Amazon.

Do your research and make a decision, but if you game regularly and are even somewhat competitive about it. The controller updates are worth the hassle.

Your assumtion wasn't wrong. It goes for 150USD on Amazon, so it's just really expensive in general. The extra 55USD are probably because of taxes, though. It's expensive to live in Sweden :c

Man, I was super stoked to hear about a controller that had mechanical switches for its buttons, but the reviews on Amazon indicate poor build quality/quality control with a high rate of dead/stuck bumpers/joysticks/triggers/etc, and controllers breaking after only a few days or weeks of use. Thanks a ton for the recommendation though, I am definitely adding this one to my list of controllers to look out for. But for now, I continue on my quest to find something better...

Here is a Razor wired controller that is similar to the elite, at only 83$ it’s actually really nice. https://www.amazon.com/Wildcat-eSports-Customizable-Premium-Controller-Programmable/dp/B0177G3QV4

Theres the Razer Sabertooth, it's better than the elite in terms of functions imho, is a bit cheaper, but has worse build quality.

A cheaper alternative are the PowerA Fusion for about 30 $ and the PowerA Fusion Pro for about 80 $. Both have not that premium-feel, but they shouldn't be bad.
