Wikepedia is a wonderful resource often unfairly maligned but for questions which require a more nuanced historiography it can't be expected to shed much light.

I broadly agree that the characterisation of the Greek civil war as primarily US backed is an exaggeration. U.S involvement was limited to mainly economic support as well as using the Mediterranean fleet and a CIA office to support the Greek government. Though of course there is the interesting precedent that the US first used napalm in a counter insurgency campaign in Greek not Vietnam.

The characterisation of the Greek communist forces as being USSR backed is also overblown in my opinion as Stalin offered little in the way of concrete support.

That said, a number of notable academics argue that the Greek civil war can be usefully understood as the first proxy war in the cold war between the US and USSR. One interesting example is Red Acropolis, Balck Terror which is well worth a read.

Ps. A reactionary government holds political views that favor a return to the status quo ante. In the context of Greek monarchy vs communist insurgency the term reactionary to characterize the monarchists seems uncontroversial. After all the term has its roots in conservative elements during the French revolutionary seeking to reign in the left wing revolution and then eventually to re-establish monarchy.
