Got it. Yeah - that just sucks from every single angle. Is there anyway you could get a smaller fridge for your vegan stuff and attach a lock to it? My husband lived in a boarding house for a short while and one of the guys had something like this. The owner flat out had a lock on a cabinet to keep his dry food safe.
That sounds extreme, but your food isn’t cheap, and it’s not like you can just grab any crap laying around.
Anyway, good luck hopefully finding a solution. Bugs in Florida heat are about the worst thing in the world!
You need this. I also like eating all of the things all of the time, and extended periods without help me manage it. I don't think that bulletproof coffee can cure the herp or whatever they say it does, but I do find that some fats throughout my morning makes it super easy to go until lunch and without bingeing back the "missed" breakfast calories later in the day. You gotta get on top of your hungry.
I have one of these installed on my fridge and freezer.
I was really nervous about installing it. Will all my friends think that I'm a super-evil, over-controlling mom? But, I needed a way to keep my oldest from raiding the fridge all the damn time. I've been pleasantly surprised that not a single person has acted with shock, judgment or disapproval. In fact, other moms have said, "that's awesome!" and asked where I bought it.

Yeah it seems like she’s crazy wasteful, I’d suggest getting ready for a confrontation (before installing the fridge lock if you’re up to it, otherwise she’s likely to bring it up afterwards). She sounds like a huge mooch

OP, I know you like to limit your contact with this person, but it might be good idea to start documenting the incidents of Nell buying weed instead of food for her child. You might need that info some day.

I understand. Sometime we apologize not because the person deserves an apology, but because he or she is a manipulative asshole who'll punish someone we care about if we don't.
That said, get Aunt Kerry and Nell together, sit them both down, and begin by giving Nell the most florid apology you can manage.
Then turn to Aunt Kerry and say, "Aunty, I want to apologize to you for causing you grief. I have a gift for you." And hand her this, and a couple of these to put her yogurt in.

It will be the best $45 plus S/H that you ever spent. You get two of those little in-fridge lockers for $20 according to the web site, so you aunt can lock up a lot of yogurt if Nell somehow gets past the padlock.
Be sure to let other members of the family that Nell has stolen from know that the refrigerator padlock exists, and is cheap to buy!
For securing odd miscellaneous equipment, we used items similar to these adhesive refrigerator locks to attach to the equipment, then computer security cables to tie them to one of the pads attached to something immovable. Attached to a solid, clean, flat surface that 3M VHB tape will not come off. They actually use it for specialized assembly of metal building fascia.
Interestingly, those refrigerator lockdown pads used to only be made as a sideline by one company named Aztek that specialized in computer/equipment lockdown stuff, but now all you can ever find is the refrigerator lockdowns. They used to have a whole line of things in various sizes, but they kind of disappeared off the face of the earth.
ESH, but you could have worked around the problem for $19.95.
You can buy a braided steel freezer lock on amazon that binds with a strong adhesive cement that locks with a padlock. I bought this one and use it on the freezer door in my lab, it's bonds very securely.
