If you are having a lot of stress about watching the dogs, you should set up some physical barriers in the house so you can leave one dog on each side and be completely relaxed that nothing will happen. I think decreasing your anxiety will really help you come to terms about the next steps. I suggest purchasing some baby gates and creating a couple spaces where each dog can relax, so then YOU can relax. The dogs probably sleep most of the time anyway - they don't need to be together all the time. It's okay if your husband doesn't understand your level of anxiety, but if you specifically tell him "I need these to be set up so I don't feel like I have to watch them," he will probably be very supportive!
