Hey, there! It's going alright. We have had them basically face-to-face in the kitchen while feeding the doggo chicken. She is way more focused on the treat than the cat, which is awesome. But upstairs is kind of "going back to kindergarten" as our trainer says because dogs need to learn everything in new contexts, i.e. the same cat she met downstairs is a stranger upstairs. We're making more and more progress everyday, but it's still going to be a while before they're bosom buddies. Our plan is to get them to the level where the dog isn't freaking out about being in the same room (cat DGAF) then we're going to get the cat a tree to climb. Right now, they spend most of their time separated.

As far as gates go, we bought this one. It's so tall that my cat doesn't even wanna cross it and the dog can't jump it. With enough motivation, she could probably knock it over, but hasn't tried to...yet.
