Catholicism and Christianity in general had to go through similar situations, and many hard liners really didn't agree with it. Considering the massive level of support that things like the subjugation of women, violence against unbelievers and Sharia law receive it's very difficult to imagine the Muslim community actually making significant cultural gains here. The article itself mentions that any changes are going to have to go through a school of jurisprudence that still strongly advocates things that would make a sane person vomit, such as massive restrictions on free speech, and has strongly endorsed texts that instruct Muslims to torture, maim and kill people from outside of the religion who insult Islam.

So, as optimistic as I would like to be, I just don't see this as a sincere step, at all.

Jazakallahu khair for your answer, brother. I found my older brother's book called "Reliance of the Traveller: The Classic Manual of Islamic Sacred Law" by Ahmad ibn Naqib al-Misri and translated by Shaykh Nuh Ha Min Keller.

For the Shafi'i, it said it is recommended to recite surat Qaf in the first rak'a and surat Al-Qamar in the second.

Or if one wishes, one way is to recite surat al-Al'a in the first rak`a and surat al-Ghashiya in the second.

Also, you can recite surat al-Kafirun in the first raka' and second rak'a is surat al-Ikhlas.

My father is planning to do surat al-Al'a and surat al-Ghashiya because it's his favorite ones to recite.

>A sharia abiding muslims are not a problem. Sharia is a law, that means they are a law abiding citizens.

Go read "Reliance of the Traveler" and then come back and tell us how these Sharia following muslims are just following Sharia in name only.
