Quickly made a collection of photos as I think this is kinda what you are looking for.
First photo I brushed out my beard to show the length, I'm actually surprised how one side is slightly longer. This photo definitely made me want to trim it as I was really unsure (and debated for about two weeks before I finally trimmed it).
Second photo I used a 12mm attachment (which is the biggest one I have) to give it a trim all over and then tidied it up with a razor round the edges to really make it pop.
Fourth photo was taken this morning. I'm at a wedding on Friday so have always had that in mind as I prefer the length and look of it now (rather than the freshly shaved look of the second photo). I will use only a razor to tidy the edges and maybe some scissors on my mustache.
I originally only bought this razor to trim my chest hair but the place I work at, I need to keep my beard in a fairly good shape so have started trimming it.
In the future I will probably buy one with an attachment that goes up to 30mm (they do exist, at least in the UK they do)
I'd recommend something similar to this the main thing you want is wireless, and with plenty of different guards, the bigger the better - at the end of the day you might want to grow it out more
