First, I'd say go to a dermatologist.

If you don't have insurance, they will likely prescribe you something like this. Use it twice a day in the shower (you should shower ASAP after a workout) and things should clear up.

My back will break out if I don't immediately come home and shower after the gym. I use this. My dermatologist recommended it. And if it gets really bad I have a spray I use. I this this on my face. They are lifesavers for me!

I've finally gotten the acne on my face to go away (after 15 years) but I'm still suffering from pretty moderately bad bacne. It's the bane of my existence. I can't wear most of my summer wardrobe.

I've been using this salicylic acid body wash with no real improvement. Last week I started a new routine with organic apple cider vinegar, this benzoyl peroxide body wash, and this salicylic acid spray. Since starting this, so far the bumps have gone down and I've only had one active pimple. Who knows if it's going to work but it seems to be drying out my back enough to keep things at bay without being too harsh. Now if only the scars can fade before June.

Here's my routine:

  • Shower in the AM, benzoyl peroxide wash and let it sit on my skin for a minute or two (I only use this wash every couple days since it's pretty drying). Make sure I don't get any conditioner on my back.

  • Right after I shower, I use a cotton pad to use the apple cider vinegar on my back sort of like a toner

  • Then I spray the salicylic acid spray and let it dry

  • Sometimes at night if I've been really active during the day (riding my bike with a heavy backpack on), I'll use the apple cider vinegar on my back again before I go to bed.


    Maybe in a month or two I'll have a positive update for you!

Also not AB but this is the only kind that doesn't have fatty alcohols as far as I could find, they have it in several different strengths, not sure which kind you need. I was going to rec oxy maximum (I used this when I was younger), but it turns out it has a few fatty alcohols, so does panoxyl!

I do not know how I would apply this product. Also, can this product be used stand alone or should it be used with other products? It seems well regarded. I currently use Cetaphil Gentle skin cleanser, Cetaphile Moistorizer and the Stridex Strength pads but they are no longer working. Looking for advice thanks.

I use this BP wash in the shower and haven't noticed any issues with my clothing. The bathmat on the floor is slightly discolored though.

I don't know if its any more or less effective than a creme that stays on, but I am happy with it.

No apology needed! I guess I kind of forgot that this is a real dermatologist and I'm a real patient to him, and what I say/think/feel matters, haha. It was just so easy a process that it seemed like an online quiz that pops out automated results and ships a package, you know?

I have oily skin, which I guess is a factor in this, too, and I forgot to mention in my original response to you :P

  1. Use a cleanser designed for oily skin. Topix Benzoyl Peroxide 10% Wash http://amzn.to/1tIUqAl is another more economical option, although higher concentrations of benzoyl peroxide do not necessarily work better, and sometimes can irritate more.

  2. Use an oil-free sunscreen. EltaMD UV Clear SPF 46 http://amzn.to/1mGsHz is a good option. If you want a mattifier, try Murad Oil-Control Mattifier SPF 15 http://amzn.com/B001LNTNGC .

I would recommend products with high concentrations of Benzoyl Peroxide- this stuff kills the bacteria causing acne. This is the one I use:

Or if you want results faster, you can try to get a prescription for minocycline- which is an antibiotic that is used for severe acne.

I used to use Cetaphil and Origins as well, but I find that these medicinal-smelling washes tend to work better for me.
