This is a hit at my bar. We have a cartridge with 150 retro games including Super Mario 1, 2, 3, TMNT 1 and 2, etc. we also have Sonic and Mortal Kombat for SEGA and a bunch of original NES and SNES cartridges.

That is a hardware clone, and a poor one at that(made by ATGames). It may be officially licensed by Sega, but doesn't mean it doesn't suck. If you are intent on getting a hardware clone get a Retro-Bit Super Retro Trio. It is currently selling for $55 and plays NES, SNES, and Genesis games it is also capable of playing GBA games with an adapter.

You can get an everdrive or something similar to allow saves states, but if you are looking for save states in general you are probably best off buying a Retron 5.

I would look into the clone consoles. I have a Super Retro Trio and it has great compatibility. It also supports flashcarts/everdrive and repos. It is $54 on amazon. I have the original consoles but is nice to save on space and have all three in one box.

That the controller that comes with the Retrobit RetroTrio, an awesome 3in1 system which I fully recommend if you arent attached to playing on original hardware. I'd rate the controllers 8/10, they aren't quite SNES territory but they're very good, and work with all 3 cart types on the RetroTrio which is very convenient.

If I were you I'd get a clone system that can play both. I'd rather get the RetroTrio but that does come with the hassle of carrying the carts. I'm just wondering what happens when you get bored of the games that come preloaded on it, since there's no way to add more.

I won (from an in-store contest) a Retro Trio earlier this year. It smells like new electronics but it plays NES, SNES and Genesis games. I bought a real Genesis controller to plug into it and bought Krusty's Super Fun House (Genesis version) to play on it. I bought RC Pro Am too and it works fine with a Genesis controller.

My drunk ass is wondering though, why do cheap electronics smell for weeks but a Sony, Nintendo or Microsoft console never smells?

You could always get something like this if you're that set on old carts.
