I don't have a details comment right now, since I forgot to put my TMUX rc on my dotfiles repo. I plan on changing it a little and I'll update with one

Edit:

Oh my this got more attention than I thought. So here's the finer details:

Computer: Raspberry Pi 3 B+

Display: 3.5" PiTFT

Tmux Conf: On my doflie repo

Keyboard for 'pocket' use: This thing

I don't have a case yet, but I'm working with a buddy of mine to make a custom one. If we are able to get it made I'll post it to this sub.

u/forth_floor · 20 pointsr/GameDeals

Have it hooked onto my TV downstairs on wifi internet while my computer is wired using an ethernet cable, works amazing. Add on something like this to help navigate websites faster and a Xbox controller and I have a perfect set up to play steam games and watch online sports streams.

Games on the link is fine as long as it's not a game that requires super low input lag. I can't play like CSGO or Rocket League on it.. But any single player/casual game is great - Fallout 4, Witcher 3, Binding of Isaac, Enter the Gungeon are all fine.

u/calley479 · 18 pointsr/raspberry_pi

I'd recommend one of these Rii Mini Wireless 2.4GHz Keyboard with Mouse Touchpad Remote Control, Black (mini X1) I've used one in several pi projects. It's the smallest USB keyboard I know of.

If that's too big, you might look at a Bluetooth iPhone keyboard-case... Like this: Bluetooth Qwerty Keyboard Sliding Case for iPhone 5/5S - Backlit, Rubberized or this one: [Hype Mini Bluetooth Keyboard - Pink - For - iPhone ...] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00D48ZQSQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_CPMDxbACMM8GT)

EDIT: After re-reading your question, I think you're looking for something different. That alibaba link didn't work on my phone this morning, so I didn't realize you were looking for a kayPad, not necessarily a keyboard. and I guess I didn't notice the 2" stipulation... so, obviously a qwerty keyboard is out.

If you're just looking for some buttons and don't mind doing some EE work, you might look at some of the keypads for Arduino projects. Like this: New Keyestudio Large Button 4*4 Matrix Keypad for Arduino UNO&MEGA/raspberry pi/AVR/STM32 that you can connect directly to the PI's IO pins... or you could even use that with an Arduino as a USB Keyboard

Though if you really did need Qwerty BlackBerry like keyboard that size, you might try one of these keyboard cases: Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ Keyboard Cover

That wireless keyboard/touchpad combo is the biggest piece of shit I've ever tried to use. Here it is for $18 on Amazon. I tried to use it in my living room to control a computer with a pickup receiver less than 3 feet away and it was choppy as all hell. The "touchpad" was a joke. I guess the only good thing about this was that it has a built in red laser to annoy my cat with.

u/Congzilla · 7 pointsr/raspberry_pi

It looks like the real deal. The case looks like it was part of one of the CanaKits like this. This was a great accessory for it.

u/wfaulk · 7 pointsr/rocksmith

I agree that this should have been implemented in game, but I feel like a mini wireless keyboard would be easier and cheaper (assuming you don't already have a MIDI interface).

u/Strider19 · 6 pointsr/raspberry_pi

I have one of these keyboards:
http://amzn.com/B00I5SW8MC

It is significantly wider than the keyboard on the radio. Maybe a few hours online would result in finding one similarly sized. I might have better luck butchering a cell phone with a qwerty keyboard, then wiring it to an arduino that can be a USB HID.

If I did create my own from scratch, I suspect I would have to design and order a printed circuit board. That would probably cost more than I have put into this project so far!

EDIT: just as an FYI- keyboard dimensions are: 94mm x 34mm

u/Stifu · 6 pointsr/RetroPie

I have this one. It gets the job done, and I haven't gotten into any issues. I haven't tried any other similar keyboard.

u/deprecatedcoder · 6 pointsr/magicleap

Hopefully it's more like $15.

I setup a raspberry pi with exodus and trakt for my computer challenged parents. They do pretty well with it.

This article really bugged me. It sounds like it was written by someone who has little to no experience using a computer as a media center. He points out all the problems of putting a PC in the living room and doesn't give any solutions, and goes on to say everyone needs to do it.

If you want a game console replacement, you're going to need a device at least as big as a console. If you want power, you need to pay the price and make sacrifices on size. The only good advice he gave was to use a laptop. Laptops are good media center solutions. Small, portable, reasonably powerful, lots of inputs.

https://www.amazon.com/Rii-Wireless-Keyboard-Touchpad-Control/dp/B00I5SW8MC as I posted above, these or any of the bazillion versions of it are pretty decent.

u/tickle_mittens · 3 pointsr/videos

A keyboard is pretty trivial. I use this mostly for chatting/trading/in game searching. I haven't got the xbox to detect the trackpad yet. But that's also not particularly important to me.

u/Wordsmith_Pony · 3 pointsr/MLPLounge

True it could make the base for something you can lay in bed with when you can't sleep or just want to lounge. This keyboard that I have works great for it

That's the closest I could find. It's not a bluetooth one, and it's MUCH newer than mine (but it looks very much the same) . I had a friend give me the one I use almost a decade ago lol.

u/bitbash · 3 pointsr/raspberry_pi

Looks like the Rii 2015 Mini. I have an older version I use for presentations.

u/jer3my · 3 pointsr/raspberry_pi

Could make something like this. http://i.imgur.com/KibyXD5.jpg

Could always swap out the LCD they used in the photo for one that sits on top of the GPIO pins.

GPIO LCD ~$18 http://www.amazon.com/OSOYOO-480x320-Display-Monitor-Raspberry/dp/B013E0IJSC/

Never used that LCD before, I have the Adafruit one. But the Ada one costs a bit more. =(

Keyboard ~$17 http://www.amazon.com/Rii-mini-X1-Raspberry-KP-810-10LL/dp/B00I5SW8MC/

PI just depends on which one you want.

SD Card depends on how much storage you want.

Battery depends on how long you want to use it. I have a 13000 mAh, http://www.amazon.com/Anker-Generation-High-Capacity-Fast-Charging-Techonology/dp/B00BQ5KHJW/ Running a headless PI with Camera board and USB Edimax wifi adapter doing timelapses at night. ~8 hours knocks off one light. So I assume it uses about 25% of the battery pack in that time.

$70 bucks is cutting it close. Other wise, as /u/trencher41 said, The Motorola Lapdock would be the only other cheap option I can think of.

I own it and it goes for weeks without needing a charge. It has it's own 2.4GHz USB dongle so there's zero compatibility issues, XB1 thinks it's a wired keyboard. Plus there is a bonus laser pointer for your cat!

u/S-Plantagenet · 3 pointsr/raspberry_pi

Actually, I just noticed what I said made no sense for the one you linked. I think what you posted is actually a clone of this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I5SW8MC/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_1?pf_rd_p=1944687702&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B00GI69A9C&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0TSVYG40PTPKTS5JSSBS

u/WayGroovy · 2 pointsr/MAME

Thanks.

Re: dead pixels, I tried it for 2 levels and moved on :) It requires a mouse, and my micro keyboard touchpad works okay, but not enjoyably. I'd be better with a trackball installed.

u/BobbyBobRoberts · 2 pointsr/cyberDeck

Looks like the Rii Mini Wireless.

u/0TheB · 2 pointsr/computers

Try something like this or this.

You could also look for keyboards that fold that are designed to be used with things like phones.

u/Robsteady · 2 pointsr/raspberry_pi

Just use a fullscreen Chromium instance and get a small wireless KB+M device to change the URL when you want to.

Some suggestions for keyboard/mice:

Lenovo N5902. Goes on sale regularly.

Logitech K400

Generic keyboard/touchpad remote. There are many slight variants on this.

I've found that due to the size/shape/content of my living room, a wireless receiver plugged into my HTPC doesn't work 100% reliably. I've connected a USB extension cable to the back of my HTPC and run it behind things and under my couch to give me the best reception. Generally you can go up to 15 feet; any longer than that and you need a powered extension.

If you have a Logitech Harmony remote, I highly recommend the OVU4003/00 (RC6) USB IR reciever. Once set up with Windows and the Harmony remote, it works with XBMC/Kodi out of the box. This receiver was branded as HP/Dell/Gateway/Philips and probably many more. A Flirc is another option but it is ugly (IMO) and more expensive.

Regarding hardware, if you aren't gaming you don't need a lot. When using older gear the most important thing is video hardware acceleration. For Intel machines, you need something with at least GMA 4500 (Q45 chipset) graphics or later, and for AMD you need something with at least a 760G chipset. This hardware dates back to 2008/2009. Dedicated graphics cards should be at least a Radeon HD 2600 or a GeForce 8500. These cards date back to 2006/2007. CPUs are a grey area, but any mainstream dual core CPU (Athlon X2, Core 2 Duo) from 2007+ should be able to handle most everything. My first HTPC had an AMD Athlon X2 5000+ and it's still working just fine with W7 and Kodi.

If you want to game (and don't want to use a device like the DOKO), you'll need to find a quiet case that supports full length video cards. There are a bunch available, and I'm not sure if this has changed in the last 2-3 years, but the vast majority of HTPC cases large enough to support full size gear and M-ATX motherboards are simply too long to fit in a standard A/V rack or TV stand. The only exceptions I am aware of are the Silverstone GD05 and GD04. I'd be willing to bet that Silverstone has some other cases that will work also.

Additionally, you'll want to find a PSU, case fans and CPU cooler that are quiet and efficient. The best resource for this is http://www.silentpcreview.com/.

Lastly, if your A/V receiver has only S/PDIF audio inputs (no HDMI) and you want to play games in 5.1 surround sound, you're going to need to find either a sound card or motherboard with an S/PDIF output that supports DTS-Connect and/or Dolby Digital Live. Motherboards stopped coming with this around 2008 (AFAIK) and the cheapest option to get it in an add-on card is the Sound Blaster Z.

u/ase1590 · 2 pointsr/SteamOS

I've used ubuntu just fine for my living room PC with no problem. scaled up the font size a bit, then just had steam boot up with Ubuntu. Get yourself one of these keyboards and you're golden.

browsed the web and watched videos on it, then used in-home streaming from steam to play games off of my main PC.

u/pyfrag · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I have that same wireless keyboard/touchpad. The range is awful, but it was cheap.

u/Cyno01 · 2 pointsr/DesignPorn

A lot have voice recognition and a microphone in the remote now, and even if not, with predictive search you usually dont have to type more than two or three letters anyway.

I have a media server in my back office, but that streams to Rokus hooked up to the living room and kitchen TVs via Plex. Plus i can use the app on my phone instead of the remote and i can type on that full keyboard.

I did get this for my Steamlink tho. https://smile.amazon.com/Rii-Wireless-Keyboard-Touchpad-Control/dp/B00I5SW8MC/

Hi u/lissabeth777,

I've temporarily removed your post because it contains something that looks like it might be a referral link. Particularly, the link you provided to the USB remote contains "ref=s9_acsd_al_bw_c_x_3_w" at the end.

If you are willing to remove this ending (and just link to https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I5SW8MC), I would be happy to reapprove your post. Just reply to this message once you have done so.

I have this and it works fine. The tv doesn't control anything, just shows the picture when changed to the correct input.

u/nedflandersuncle · 1 pointr/raspberry_pi

Thank you. I was looking at those and just wanted to be sure. I have never used a cable like that for anything before. BTW, do you know if wireless keyboards, mice will work out of the box? I am considering ordering this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I5SW8MC

I don't think there's anything wireless like that, but that sounds like it would be awful to use unless you've got god-tier oldschool nokia skills.

Why not something hand-sized like this? (disclaimer, I have a small Rii keyboard like that and the wireless connectivity is pretty shitty, so you might want to shop around)

u/rotfsmlsh · 1 pointr/Steam

There were a few programs that forced me to go to my host computer to get past the launcher. I just hooked up my mini wireless keyboard directly to the link to avoid the issue. Pretty sure you could just use a wireless mouse if you have one lying around. Before I had the link, I hooked up my laptop to the TV and used the wireless keyboard to navigate stuff. So far it looks like the steam link can replace my laptop entirely for streaming non-steam stuff.

As far as games hiding the launcher, I've only run into an issue when trying to launch Mass Effect. I've read launching that in windowed mode can fix the issue.

u/avoutthere · 1 pointr/raspberry_pi

I've been very happy with this little guy. The USB dongle works perfectly with my Pi.

u/tgoodmarsh · 1 pointr/pcgaming

I just picked up this little guy about a week ago. It definitely beats having a full-size wireless keyboard on my coffee table; I chose it specifically because I wanted something the size of a TV remote. It's worthless for gaming though, best for HTPC use.

u/Brinohm · 1 pointr/PleX

It's a really good question actually. With a RPi build, I have a little wireless keyboard that I use when nothing else is working (or ready). It comes in super handy when you first start setting an RPi up or if the device has a bit of a jam. For normal operations, I run headless like you saw, and just VNC into the machine for updates and changes (or SSH). Below is a link to the one I have for ref

I've got the previous version of the Logitech K400 that fits neatly in my bag and is a reasonable keyboard for setting things up. I've tried the mini-keyboards like the Rii but they're a bit of a pain to work with if you're trying to do a lot of configuration work. Especially if you're a vi user.

I'd like to figure out how to use a Raspberry Pi to run my local fire company's program called IAmResponding. Basically I can just use a website to display everything that I need, so that's my base. I'd like to make it so that every time the device is turned on, it'll go to the IAR website and log in on startup. On top of that, I'd like to make sure I can do all of that before I buy all the necessary things in order to do it.

So what I need is a Raspberry Pi, programming, some sort of input device (I'm thinking of buying one of those mini keyboards with the touchpad thing next to it) and a way to connect to wi-fi.

Right now we're using a smart TV, but it's total crap. It'll only run IAR for about 12 hours before it stops responding.

u/humanmanguy · 1 pointr/AndroidQuestions

The Amazon Fire TV is great and very high quality for only $99. If you have amazon prime, you can use it to watch some "free" shows/movies, or simply download the Netflix or Hulu app.

It doesn't have a full qwerty keyboard, but is compatible with any keyboard, including bluetooth ones such as this or this one which is only $15.

The best part is that it is supported by Amazon, which has some of the best customer support around. I don't know what the prices are in the UK, but it seems like it'd fall within your budget.

Eh, I've been using the Windows apps for Netflix and Hulu for a bit, and they're not so bad (Plex however is atrocious). I was thinking I'd get one of those wireless mini-keyboard/trackpad doodads that people seem to like using with their Raspberry Pis. It would certainly solve the problem of an on-screen keyboard.

One thing you could do, is set up a sub-account, specifically for your kids, with all the parental options set up the way you want them. I'm assuming you haven't done this yet. If you have, then i shall move on to my next idea..

You could pick up something like this, and stash it in a drawer, or somewhere up high, away from destructive hands..
