As a robotics software engineer in Germany what I can say is that the automation sector employs really much more people than you think. Underestimating newly created jobs is not a healthy way to understand unavoidable advances in industry.

Update: Yes, it may be true that there is going to be a big net reduction in jobs. But this is something that governments have to think about. It is already obvious that new revolution in industry will result in a huge shift like it did during the first industrial revolution. But like I said; Governments have to figure it out and maybe have to invest on education instead of poking other people around the world with their weapons. They may provide a basic income for totally unskilled people. idk.

But other important thing that most of people don't consider is that automation does not replace jobs all the time. It basically creates completely new ones. There are so many possible tasks in industry that cannot be done by human workers. With automation we will be able to produce completely new materials, products or increase the production quality enormously.

So what is approaching is a shift of course but no need to behave like a Luddite:

It's an in depth look at how technology will affect our future economy, describing the current changes that are underway and how this differs from previous technological revolutions.
