Action packer: http://www.amazon.com/Rubbermaid-1172-ActionPacker-Storage-Gallon/dp/B00002N6SQ

I added the hook side of hook and loop (Velcro) tape to the bottom so it does not slide around in my trunk.

  1. Small set of tools (hammer, pliers, small socket set, 4-in-1 screwdrivers, etc in a bag)
  2. Three Nalgene 16oz water bottles filled with water. (have put out two small fires with these!)
  3. Stanley 55-099 FatMax Xtreme Fubar Utility Bar
  4. Jumper cables (used at least twice a year to help someone else).
  5. About 50' of orange 550 cord.
  6. Two contractor grade garbage bags.
  7. Penzoil hand-pump siphon.
  8. 1-gallon gas can
  9. Old baseball cap
  10. Small, light, water resistant coat/windbreaker (bought for $5 at Old Navy years ago).

I also throw in my Maxpedition Falcon II backpack, which is my overnight bag, and also doubles as a Get Home Bag. I've used it for impromptu overnight stays at friends houses, and have used some of the things in it at various times (headlamp, cliff bar, toilet paper).

And then there is my EDC. So this list does not include the contents of my EDC or GHB : )

I think the common answer right now is still an Action Packer with TSA-approved locks, just sent as checked baggage.

I use to put an air mattress in the back of my jeep to camp. I would use 2 action packers to put my stuff in and lock them to my bumper. Most inconvenient thing I found was getting changed, it's not the most convenient thing in the world to put on some fresh underwear bouncing around on an air mattress.

The shipping tote is pretty stout, but if it break I think I'll switch to a Rubbermaid ActionPacker

I use hardsided luggage (rubber made 24 gallon totes) for all of my bags and throw a gun in each. It makes it harder for the TSA to steal items out of my bags as they cannot open the case without me being there.

Aaaah, I was thinking everyone used stuff like this for air travel since that's the one everyone seems to recommend, my bad. I have a ton of rolling suitcases at my house so I figured that was my best bet.

These http://www.amazon.com/Rubbermaid-1172-ActionPacker-Storage-Gallon/dp/B00002N6SQ Rubbermaid Action packer boxes are great for car camping and seem nearly indestructible.
