For those curious, here's the link. It caught me off guard; the hair and outfit were pretty similar to what Max wears.

It could save your life and fits in almost any bag. It also has UV ink so cops can identify the target. It's legal in most (all?) states but some don't let you ship it there.

Don't carry a pocket knife with dreams of slashing at an attacker. They'll just take it from you and use it against you.

> Now I don't intend to go swinging around a weapon like a maniac but does anyone have experience facing down criminals while armed like this.

>For example if some thugs stop me or try and catch up to me and I pull out a knife, am I just going to see a bunch of them pull out knives and get killed for sure?

It's a possibility. Whenever someone is mugging you, you have two choices. Fight or give them what they want. Most don't want fight and just want whatever is in your pocket, but that doesn't mean that they won't fight if you give them a reason. That said, if the odds are 4:1, it might be better to just give them your wallet or phone. Even if you're armed, you don't know what they might be carrying. In my experience, it's best to assume that everyone is armed with a handgun and if you're going to fight, strike hard and fast before they have a chance to react. In my experience, people like this are cowards and will run away when confronted with a difficult challenge.

I keep a knife on my belt and pepper gel in my pocket, attached to a retractable key holder. The knife has its uses, but the pepper gel is usually my first choice. If I pull on the key holder string with my hand in the right position, the canister will come out of my pocket and into my hand in a very smooth, fluid motion that takes about a second. Pulling the knife takes a little bit longer and doesn't work as well against multiple people.

DC does not have open carry laws, so the only way to legally carry a gun while in the city (limited exceptions notwithstanding), is to have a concealed carry permit, which is notoriously difficult to obtain in DC. The fact that you're not an American will probably make it next to impossible (sorry).

I've heard good things about DC IMPACT. Maybe you should look into taking classes with them.
